Clubs like Wolves and Newcastle are sleeping giants whereas we have absolutely no history at all and with the exception of one year 40 years ago we have always been perpetual strugglers in the top flight and if it hadn't been for the happy accident of having a young kid called Zaha in our academy we would have sunk without trace years ago

Sorry, but the moment you mentioned Newcastle as a, and I quote, "sleeping giant" you lost all credibility.

Well they might have been sleeping for a long time, but I would say that being four times league champions, six time FA Cup winners and a couple of (minor) European trophies, does put them in that category, yes.

Newcastle are huge sleepers, for too long now they've been wearing them on the pitch.

No it's not, Roy went another 3/4 games before getting his first points, it took him time to get the defensive frailty left by FdB and Pardew before him out of their system. Although we will never be able to say what would have happened had FdV stayed,I for one would not have wanted to bet that we would have not been relegated by Christmas that year. The point I'm making is Roy saved us and that I can be sure of. The article below says it all!

Totally agree. I was treating your remark about being relegated by Christmas too literally. Unless a team is more than 57 points behind the team 4th from bottom at the halfway stage, it cannot at that point be said to be relegated. A silly point to make, I admit.

No league titles in 92 years doesn’t make you "sleeping giants"

Maintaining a regular crowd base of 50,000 plus probably does. They don't seem to have recovered from the Kevin Keegan nearly years when they blew the PL title to Manure. They also had a couple of good years in Europe in that period but have struggled to perform since and especially during the current ownership period.

To get back on topic, there is little point in getting rid of Roy unless there is a suitable replacement, and we fans don't know of any who are available and may be willing to come to us.

Furthermore, it is most unlikely that the board will consider such a move this side of Christmas unless we totally implode before then, which I don't see happening.

Roy has proved to a safe pair of hands so far and will hopefully continue to be so, seeing us over the line this season, albeit, I suspect, with a bit of a struggle along the way as is usual. What concerns me most of all at the moment is whilst we have board made up of two Americans who want out, then the club will make little progress and this will present us as unattractive proposition to any potential managerial replacements when the time comes. This unwillingness to invest in the clubs long term PL future is unsound, especially if they really do want out, because if we are relegated, due the dysfunctional board, then clubs value plummets. Parish really has to sort this out!

With you 100% there Den. I think the signing of Eze BEFORE the Sorloth windfall may have been a grudging recognition by the American members of the board that the club needed to spend something more than peanuts on a player if we were to have a reasonable chance of staying up.

However, whilst ever we have this dysfunctional board make-up we will be doing no more than treading water at best so as to keep above the bottom three.

You recognise they are a massive club with huge potential, but you think our board is dysfunctional.

The manager got 1 point in the last 8 games of the season whilst the club has lost its match day income. Hardly the circumstances for prudent financiers to increase the the level of investment.
