Seems like it is a choice between Frank Lampard and Eddie Howe now!

sounds to me like NES was hesitant about joining the club, and would only take it on if there were no better offers. Never a good sign.
Even if the demands that NES was making were not excessive, Parish and Co. have seemingly(and rightly) decided that they didn't want someone who was not 100% committed to the job at hand.
Fair enough, lets move on and find someone who actually wants to be here.

Ok so Nuno is now a no no because of the package demands. I am fine with that I would prefer to manage within my financial means and ensure my future is assured. So now we move on . Us fans have been stating that we are boring to watch play negative football and never introduce young players. It is on that basis we are saying what is the point of Dyche as it is imagined that it will bring more of the same hence the fans naming supposedly attack minded managers.
My question is does anyone really know what the hierarchy at Palace has stated is the profile of the manager they are looking for. We are dismissing this manager or that manager but none of us know what the hierarchy are looking for. We will only know when they make an appointment . If they considered Nuno maybe a defensive counter attacking manager is what they want. This would indicate many of the managers us fans think would be good for us do not fit the profile.
Let’s not be surprised if a name from nowhere comes out the woodwork.COYP

Just on the subject of Championship managers, going back to the time when Warnock was in charge I remember being so impressed with how well some sides were set up when they came to Selhurst: Kenny Jackett, Malky Mackay and Sean O'Driscoll all did amazing jobs at their respective clubs and played great football - Mackay screwed up, O'Driscoll should have taken the Burnley job when Owen Coyle left, and Jackett was very unlucky to be replaced at Wolves - he lost all three of his main attackers just prior to the start of his final season there. I was confident that Potter, Wilder and Smith would succeed when their sides were promoted, and by and large they have proved themselves. We don't keep tabs on the championship so much now, but the standard of coaching has really improved over the last 15/20 years or so, there are pluses and minuses but Ismael and Cooper have shown undoubted ability thus far. I would have been happy to be promoted under O'Driscoll, Mackay or Jackett back before 2010, and I don't doubt there are several championship managers who could cut it in the prem, Ismael and Cooper seem to be at the top of that list so maybe we should be less inclined to pre-judge.

My concerns with Cooper are that he was criticised at times last season for being tactically naïve and they somewhat stumbled into the play-offs winning only two of their last ten games. Furthermore, the main reason most people who wanted Roy replaced was because they were unhappy with the standard of the football which had become painful to watch, so why would we want a less experienced manager who has been criticised for playing football that is hard to watch? It would make no sense to me.

I'm not against giving a manager with no PL experience a chance, but I would want someone who could take us in a new direction. Ismael for example plays an aggressive high pressing game which could be interesting, while France has had a few young up-and-coming managers who have lifted smaller clubs in Ligue 1 by playing fast counter-attacking football. Maybe with more money and better players Cooper will grow and prove to be a great coach and manager, but at the moment the evidence to me points towards a disaster waiting to happen. If he gets the job I'll back him and I'm a pretty patient guy, but I can't say it will fill me with any confidence.

This is a post based just on feeling and with no justification, analysis or reasoning. Steve Cooper is a victim of just not being a sexy name or a foreign manager. If he happened to work wonders with the spanish youth setup, before going to a championship club and reaching the play-offs two seasons running, we would all be lapping it up.

You say Cooper is tactically naive. DID YOU WATCH THE TWO LEGS WITH BARNSLEY??? He completely out thought, out played and comfortably did a number on the opposing manager.

You say Swansea “stumbled” into the play offs. THEY FINISHED ABOVE BARNSLEY.

Swansea’s budget was only two places above Barnsley’s in the championship (information taking from price of football podcast).

Cooper has won a trophy with England youth and reached the play offs two seasons running. Potter couldn’t “stumble” into the play offs with swansea, despite his Scandinavian success yet he is being touted for top six jobs.

Velerian Ishmeal plays long ball direct football (which I am not opposed to). So direct, it’s been quoted by some managers that he is the most direct ever. Velerian Ishmeal has never managed more than 50 games at one club. Yes, he has done OK, but the obsession with him over Cooper is laughable.

Cooper is a risk 100% and it might not work out. But we are judging on a minority of Swansea fans and the hear say on forums. Yet more likeable characters who are arguably less equipped are seen to better options.

I still find it utterly bizarre that the sticking point was over backroom staff. 5-6 of Nuno's backroom staff have gone everywhere with him and it's a prerequisite of hiring Nuno that you also take them on. Surely this isn't something they'd throw in at the eleventh hour, unless they started deviating from the number of staff they originally agreed was required.

Who knows!

We have dodged a bullet with Nuno and his entourage, they would have totally disrupted the financial stability and left the club to reliant on him. If he went so would all all his hangers on, leaving us with no back room staff.

Good post, perhaps the best one in this whole thread. If it is to be Cooper he will get my wholehearted support.

I think this saga and this thread have highlighted three important points...

- Clearly nobody on here has a clue what is going on behind the scenes
- The media, by and large, do not have a clue what is going on
- The bookies, as I've said many times, have no inside information and do not have a clue what is going on

I read the Athletic article last night and, if you take what they've said as being true, sounds like Nuno has been an absolute timewasting w***er and I'm glad we haven't got him.

Still crossing my fingers for Ismael but, at this point, I'd take anyone if it means just stopping the nonsense speculation and hopefully sorting out the squad.

There's also the case of what some fans see as a negative style of play actually works ok at Palace.

I loved Sam Allardyce's time with us and thought we played some great football. I was gutted when he left.
Yet Everton dumped him and West Ham got bored of him.

Coppell's era had some sparkling displays under Wright & Bright but also some seriously boring displays.

Also what's the average time for a manager anywhere - 2 seasons?? This idea someone will come in and rebuild and stay for 5 years is unlikely. The Wengers and Fergusons are few and far between.

It may just be Cooper is boring for some Swansea fans but great for us. Ismael may be a long ball Larry at Barnsley but chnage his tactics with better players.

I've still got my £1 bet on Frank Lampard but right now I cannot wait for anyone to be appointed. Typical modern over entitled fan!

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.
