De Boar Mark II, a positive is that Allardyce will be back by end of October.

I know he may look like a wild animal but that's no reason to call him one.

As for Allardyce, I don't want him anywhere near Palace. We need to move on from fire-fighting managers.

it's ok it's easy to sack this type of risky manager after a few weeks if it doesn't work out, and we'll have plenty of time in the season left to find an overpaid mercenary to see us alright.

In all seriousness, I'm open-minded about it. He might turn out to be great, he's certainly worked very closely with some of the best managers of their time.

If it all turns out to be true of course.

I hope he works out, and he's more of a wildcard than the other likely candidates. And I think he'd be better at sealing the deal with some transfers than the other guys. Being French is probably also a plus for recruitment beyond the usual suspects.

He won't be here long regardless --if he doesn't do well then there will be immediate calls for his head.

If he does well then other clubs will start sniffing around. I hope he does so well we are all pissed he's been poached by a big club!

Hmmm. Open minded. Better stats than Freedman, Southgate and Coleman. However, first and foremost and if the documentary is anything to go by - SP is a Palace fan. (He says, living in hope).

Agreed, tho, 'IF' its true, is this a box-ticking exercise by SP? I mean, he IS a PR man, CPFC only EPL club to currently have a foreign black manager?

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

No and can we please, please, please not make the colour of his skin a feature of his time at Palace. They've already started with that theme on Twitter & the BBS.

He is our manager. That's what he'll be judged on. The colour of his skin is irrelevant

We're the Arthur over ere!

We haven’t a manager yet. You really think colour is a deciding factor. Then there is no hope for you.

If it is Vieira, and it's a big if at this point, why say it's a "huge recruitment mistake"? Any manager we hire could turn out to be that, regardless of his experience. The most popular manager hires of recent years with supporters were probably Taylor and Pardew. Both came with some pedigree. Both were disastrous managers at Palace. So calling a potential new manager a "huge recruitment mistake" before he's even arrived is at best hugely negative (I guess you're a Palace fan because the word "supporter" certainly doesn't fit you) and at worst plain stupid.

On the evidence, Vieira would be a reasonable hire. He's become a manager the "right" way, starting with two years at arguably the best academy in the country (I prefer that route to the "retire and jump straight into the Premiership" approach, personally), then gone on to three years in the states (roughly equivalent to learning the job at a Championship level) where his teams improved every season, ending up second overall in his final year. He went to Nice where his team finished one place better than they had the previous season when they were managed by guess who? Lucien Favre. Sure, he was fired the next year after a losing streak but show me a manager who hasn't been fired once or twice in his career? There aren't many. Vieira may not have pulled up any trees early in his managerial career but he's certainly shown a solid pedigree. Enough to warrant a chance.

Other pluses? He knows English football and the Premier League. You have to think, particularly via Man City and maybe Arsenal too that he has excellent contacts in the game. My guess is that most of our players grew up watching him and most likely respect him. He's won just about everything there is to win in the game. And he's ambitious. I doubt Vieira's vision is to "just stay up" although ambitions may sometimes come at a price. Lastly, what are our other options at this point? Not many who want to come to Palace and are credible candidates unless you want Steve Cooper.

Is Vieira my ideal hire? Probably not. But particularly given the situation in which we find ourselves, is he a bad hire? Definitely not. He's a career winner with decent managerial pedigree who's probably ready for his first really high profile job. He'll command the respect of the dressing room on day one.

If Vieira comes and you think he represents a "huge recruitment mistake" I really do wonder what you're looking for (realistically) in a Palace manager, cos we ain't getting Klopp or Guardiola or, for that matter, Nuno or Lampard.

Totally agree, I think only a few of us knew Favre before his name was mentioned and to be honest at 63 I would have thought that if he had signed he would possible have retired when his 3 yrs contract was up with us. In Vieira case I honestly think this is a fantastic signing for us a young manager at 45 new ideas, approach hopefully we will see attacking well organised football. It will be interesting to see who he will appoint as his assistant. I do wonder if this appointment will keep Zaha happy.

Absolutely SP hires a manager based on ethnicity to tick a box .. ffs

Why is this even an issue to be brought up in 2021. If he’s a good manager then he’s a good manager if he’s s*** he’s s*** .. tbh don’t believe a word of it ..
