Whoever comes in has an enormous task.
Players out of contract who won't be retained, others who struggle to play two games in a week, Academy players not ready for PL quite yet, small transfer kitty, most talented player out injured until further notice, other talented player in constant strop mode, shambolic defence and weak attack - all needs to be sorted into some sort of shape close season and I have my doubts.
As we saw from Hodgson's time at the club, PL survival is everything, irrespective of style. Maybe by Xmas we'll be asking Roy back; the irony!

We’ll be asking for Eze back not Roy.

Well it’s now Monday and no announcement of any press conference so a smooth transition to a pre-arranged candidate looks increasingly unlikely

I understand the concern about what will come next, but if the club had no money I really don't think they'd have let Roy leave (unless it really was his decision). What I do think is that they will want a manager who can get the best out of up-and-coming players, rather than needing ready-made pros. Also, Parish has already said the squad was too big, so I think some of those who leave won't be replaced anyway. As to talk of Dougie, that is never going to happen. Not only has he not managed a club in years he has not even coached. Parish may get some things wrong, but he's not an idiot.

Going by the fact that Roy, feels he has more to offer to football, there is every chance he had enough. For four years he has made the point that if the club is to go forward improving, the playing side needed investment. It never came , and in fact is slipping backwards. I suspect he was told he would get certain types and didn’t. This time he wasn’t going to play ball. And can you blame him,? Well of course many have been happy to blame him for sticking and making the best of it.
This is the worry, it indicates nothing much on transfer policy will change, in fact if this squad got reduced as suggested the mind boggles, when you consider the problems we have had with getting a competitive side out at times.
It’s hard to see who , that isn’t desperate for any chance would want this job. Unless they should take a chance on any new promises the club are making.

Whoever comes in has got a massive job on their hands.

Most of the players talked of as being worth renewing are well past their prime and injury prone but would cost a fortune to replace. Schlupp has had lengthy spells off both of the last two seasons and even Zaha has picked up more injuries this season than previous.

Riedewald, Luka and Ayew are slow. Tomkins is made of glass, Ferguson’s knee injury clearly serious, McArthur must have missed half the season.

The owners are going to need to dig very deep or were fvcked IMO.

Good points but a major part of this is integrating a large number of new players into the squad which, will call for expert management and coaching skills. Change is always challenging and this is on a wholesale scale. Therefore the choice of manager is even more important.

There is a part of me that is getting really worried we will try to do this on the cheap and cock itup.

We look to be a bit cash strapped - no new stand, recent transfer windows where we relied on loans or aging free transfers, rhs sale of AWB (which I still thing was to balance the books) and the fact that we had to get some of that money advanced early and at cost via a loan.

We have let a stupid number of contracts expire at th
E same time so right now don't really have a competitive 1st team and have not got rid of some of these players before their value was £nil.

We sign players in turn who never even play for us.

I am not convinced on that evidence we have the money to rebuild a Premier league squad so who would want the job?

I have seen an early copy of the Amazon programme (admittedly not the final cut.) Dougie is quite vocal about his mistakes in both leaving and how it happened. Lots of talk of unfinished business.

I could see SP simply swapping Roy and Dougie over with Derry as coach and thinking what a clever solution based and cost effective chap he is.

I fear if he do that we will continue shopping in the bargain basement and then the struggle continues.

As we are and in the position we are in I just can't see anyone wanting such a huge rebuilding job

Plus losing Eze for so long which, really exposes our frailties. Not exactly a big draw for an aspiring manager or indeed quality players who we desperately need.

It's lazier to suggest Dyche will get us playing simply on the basis of what he did in 90 minutes against the oldest team in the league. Burnley play the worst football in the Premier League by a country mile, it's basically rugby at times. I accept that Dyche will probably keep us up for a couple more years and perhaps that's the route we need to take. But then it really, really begs the question as to why we're getting rid of Roy.

"I'll say it again", in our first season, when we had Cabaye & Loftus-Cheek in midfield and a younger squad, we played some excellent stuff under Roy.

Roy is known for this functional and difficult to watch football that isn’t a foundation to build on. He also pretty much relies on proven players. Add in no subs until it’s too late, the same 11 picked if he can, regardless of past performances and opposition, the same dour tactics every single match and restricting attacking players to the point they regress or just lose interest, isn’t a long term strategy. We need to start with something else, and if that’s just improving players and assets in the squad that unfortunately but realistically have to be sold for a club our size then so be it.

Anyone with any technical ability either has to wait 5 months to get an appearance or doexnt play at all. Zaha’s value has plummeted under Roy. Sure, Roy will keep us in the league, but it’ll destroy certain cultural and financial components of a football club if it continues for long enough to the point that there’s fvck all of any use to us in the squad once it all comes crashing down. Besides, Roy cannot manage forever, but this seems to be the Palace culture recently. Cling onto what we have in fear of change, with the eventual effect that it’s inevitably worse than the change that was the fear.

That would be a recipe for relegation given the contract status of our players. The new manager needs to be announced now and given time to assemble a squad. Anything else would be folly.

Total agree but then again in hindsight I would love to see all our transfer dealings done early a manager in position well before the season start, but then again this is Palace you are talking about as we all know nothing is straight forward nothing is easy.

As it looks we can scrub Eddie Howe name off the list.

What a load of utter rubbish. You, like most of the "Roy out" bandits simply refuse to take into account the lack of investment he received & just how dire the tools are he had to work with. It's cult-like.

The notion that he has only ever played a rigid & defensive style of football is bordering on absurd & probably deliberate ignorance. Ask any Fulham fan and they'll tell you something different. You don't get to a Europa League final, beating Juventus on the way, with Fulham of all teams, by playing Pulis style football. Roy didn't play the style of football you allude to in his first season at Palace, either, because he had a midfield with Loftus-Cheek & Cabaye in it. Their departures were more significant than you seem to give credit for & he was not backed with any replacements. He mentioned on a number of occasions that the squad required investment but unlike managers that went before him, he didn't throw his toys out the pram when it wasn't forthcoming. As for technical players stagnating under Roy, I'm not sure what you're even talking about. Eze has been brilliant, Cabaye was excellent, Zaha was wanted by the top clubs pretty much throughout Roys tenure & had his 2 best scoring seasons under him, too. The fact that his age & Covid has brought his stock down has nothing to do with Roy. What a ridiculous thing to assert.

Anyway, the whole "Roy in" "Roy out" thing has been done to death at this point. It's irrelevant now. He's gone. You lot got your wish and there is every chance the board rendered his position almost untenable due to the growing section of disgruntled fans.

What I'm questioning you on is the notion Sean Dyche is the guy to replace Roy with if your major concern is a progression in the football. Dyche is about the worst candidate possible if that is what you want. Could the football marginally progress with Dyche & investment? Who knows? What we do know is that it almost certainly would've had Roy been afforded a window with some of the investment he frankly earned.

People are now going to find out just how great a manager Roy was. Looking at the squad and injuries it seems like relegation and rebuilding is inevitable. That is unless the Yanks dig deep into their pockets.
