Now I know I’m going to get some abuse, especially living in Croydon, but I find Worthing and all those other places along that coast utter sh@te holes.

Full of chavs on mobility scooters with a can of larger in one hand and fag in the other. Just don’t see the appeal myself.

worthing town centre / shops is pretty crap & rundown.
However the seafront is a relaxed, NON beardy hipster version of brighton, heading west you go from Goring to east preston & Rustington all very nice & pretty old school values
(just dont go up into Durrington, its our version of New Addo)

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

I am not enamoured by Worthing town centre and have not paid a visit to these parts for a long time.
I have been recommended to some public houses and eateries in the town but haven't availed of their hospitality.
I agree with your assessment of the localities you mentioned west of Worthing !

I'm enjoying the critic of Worthing having left 11 years ago after 25years plus residency. I therefore disprove the go there to die theory.
It's true it has deteriorated. Once a reasonable residential area, a number of employers have gone and this has added to the decline. There has never been any proper investment to attract in particular younger people. The Teville Gate saga has rumbled on for decades. Still nothing built there.
So 300 odd pages to go to catch up the Roy Out post
Oh and nobody has mentioned Littlehampton - fodder for some one liners and adding some pages.

Eastbourne was God’s waiting room along the seafront and occupying nearby property and hotels. Catch the crossings wrong and you could be stuck there for ages waiting for them to get across.

I am not enamoured by the town centre at all.
Furthermore some of the populace one sees wandering the streets in the town look far from desirable.
I have also been recommended to some public houses and eateries in the town but have not availed of their hospitality.

The Worthing FC manager Adam Hinshelwood is the son of our erstwhile player Paul "Doris" Hinshelwood.

Adam Hinshelwood has done well at the club - they were top of the Isthmian Premium in the last two seasons but due to the pandemic the league fixtures were not completed.

As a guide..
I'm a croydon boy, born,etc.
Having escaped the cronx (long story) 3 years ago, whatever you hear about worthing (o'k i live along the road, walking distance in Goring)
it is heaven compared to croydon & similar towns.
before lockdown there was / is a proper old school pub culture.
friday afternoon pubs are full, heaving.
curry houses are busy-order late at your peril.
There is trouble, villany etc, but the vibe is low key, people are polite (mostly)
for those that are long in tooth croydon, think 80s-90s
with the social life & easier times.
besides pubs n curry there is a healthy exercise, sport attitude, its not up its arse (like brighton)
people live longer.
check it out, leave croydon, move to the coast.
I've never been more happy.
KD.

I believe it is you who recommended the 'George & Dragon' and the 'Coach & Horses' neither of which I have visited.

Having worked in Worthing for 5 years I must say the place really grew on me. I would consider moving down that way there are some lovely local villages. All I would say is avoid the town centre on Market day it brings out a certain Jeremy Kyle type person.

Oi!! Most of the people in Durrington pretend they live in Goring or Salvington.
I'm quite happy here.
Are you one of the people who owe me a pint KingDowie?
Happy to show you the best pubs if so

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

I have had occasions to visit Manor Parade.
Parking is very congested and on one occasion I got involved in a contretemps with a van driver whom I notice made contact with my vehicle when attempting to park into a 'Tight' spot.

Fortunately no mark on my vehicle but I never knew that when I reared up at him and bellowed at him with gusto.
I thought for a moment I would need to resort to my 'Martial Arts' days of yesteryear!!
