The abuse Roy got from a lot of fans was shocking. He did superbly well with the players, and limited resources at his disposal. Worrying times ahead whoever the new man is. Roy was a safe pair of hands and you knew he would always grind out the 40 points. Not his fault he inherited a squad of players put together by four different managers and most of whom who were approaching their sell by date.

It's been very well handled from the club with great statement and valedictory on his behalf from Parish.
Classy I thought for a great servant to the club. It has been rather dull in colourful times but Roy has been stolid.

Whole affair puts certain other big time clubs to shame. He'll pass the reins to a new Manager and team and very much the spirit of Palace established with new aspirations. Vale Roy!

Be where you are; otherwise you will miss your life.

I've never posted on a thread about Roy, basically because I'm a neutral.

Roy was the right manager at the right time, and no matter what, there have been memorable moments.

And I have walked out at half time on one occasion, but I do recognise the value of his work.

Goodbye Roy, I'll not be there to participate in the ovation, but you deserve every decibel.

There's a new stand going up shortly, and I can't think of a more deserving name to display over it.

He's a great manager and he did an amazing job for us but I think the time is right for us to move on and someone with more of an attacking philosophy to take over.

I don't think this is the end of Roy's time in management though; we could very well see him in an opposing dugout in the near future...

Truth is, no one will ever know whether other managers could have done as well as Roy over the past 4 years. He was dealt a difficult hand from the start, and he was constantly dealing with a complex roster of players, many of whom were either slower or less skilled than most of their opponents. In the form of the immensely talented Wilf, Roy also had to manage a petulant perfectionist whose overweening ambition is to be surrounded by better players, in more competitive circumstances, in order to enjoy the success and achieve the recognition he believes he deserves. That Roy somehow kept the team from implosion – even after plenty of disastrous games – is a testament to his character and his skill at managing people.

Perhaps others would have gotten more from the club, but I suspect not. Or not much. And I would wager that many managers would have wilted over the years, victims of their own egos and ever more resentful of the stinginess and seeming indifference of the incompetent American owners.

Roy should always remain proud of his service to the club. I thank him, and I will miss him.

250 tickets still available in the Arthur for the Arsenal game last night. I find that quite shocking. Says it all really about why he has to go. The end doesn't justify the means (if I've got that the right way round)

I will be sorry to see Roy go and I hope he able to do whatever he wants to do. Thank you Roy for keeping us in the Prem.

I suspect it has more to do with a lot of fans' wariness regarding the pandemic. For my part I have a 7 hour return journey on public transport (3 trains and the tube). I'm playing it safe until next season (BTW I renewed my season ticket before knowing Hodgson would be leaving).

Get ready for a very bumpy ride from now on. Anyone thinking Lampard will be a good fit will find out now should he get the post.

I have my doubts about him, he had the tools at Chelsea but didn’t know how to use them!

I agree with all the positive sentiments expressed on here about Roy's time with Palace. He has done a wonderful job for us but now is the right time for him to move on so a new, younger manager can oversee the rebuild. I suspect that it was Parish's decision to make this change, not Roy's, but it was agreed that it could be positioned as his decision, out if respect foe Roy. I also think that the timetable for this was agreed some time ago and the new manager (probably Lampard or Howe) is ready and waiting in the wings, with a further announcement coming on Monday or Tuesday. One thing is for sure, us Palace fans are going to have an interesting and hopefully exciting summer and season ahead!
