Just some words of caution. Some people got excited about Frank a few years ago. Mind you the Dutch are great to watch but I'm hopfully going to be eating some pie. I fear we might have a bit of a rocky road like Southampton did at first. Good luck to him if its true. Interesting times ahead.

We will never know "whether or not things were under control" until Parish writes his memoirs. This year has been a more difficult than usual time for recruiting managers as there are so many clubs chasing a relatively small pool

I can see it now, 'When Eagles Dare - Road to the Champions League', including a tense episode documenting Palace's hunt for a new manager back in 2021 when they were a bottom-half club known for playing depressing survival football.

I take it that's a joke I once had to get a work visa for a non Swiss and it was painful to say the least, still I get it they were protecting their jobs.

don't you have to prove that there's no one homegrown who can do the job better? That won't be hard they can read through the 'meet our new manager' thread and read the response to such suggestions as Cooper, Lampard, keep Roy etc

I guess we'll find out if our kids are good enough. Two stepping up (and holding their own) in 1 season would be an extraordinary success.

Nice words from Favre from an Amazon documentary on Borussia Dortmund (their equivalent of 'Where Eagles Dare'):

"...you (also) need physical potential.Everyone says mental strength is very important. But to have mental strength on the pitch, you need players who, before all else, are able to run...Because saying: 'He has a super mentality, but he can't run back and forth' - that's no use. And if you have a player on the team who does nothing defensively, you don't have a team. Nowadays you have to be able to play hurt. They can suffer, really suffer. This is... you asked me about my philosophy. To play football, but... You can have a team, a real team. And then you can wage war if you have that."

I fear for Luka and the two Jimmy Macs because one doesn't run very much, the other two do but not very fast any more, Scott Dann was a gonner already now it's a cert ... and I like the emphasis on 'team', you see some sides at the Euros and they don't have much of a Plan B, they don't regroup and come together to meet the challenge (Poland have been guilty of this, only deciding to play when they were 2-0 in the final group game). The more a side gels the more fluid is its play and the more combinations it can make ... it gives you an idea of what he's aiming at, be interesting to see who he brings in and gets rid of to progress towards his style.

He looks as if he has partly morphed into Jurgen Klinsmann

Totally agree. If he comes in he will only have 7 weeks until the season starts so we can probably expect a slow start. He is going to have a massive job on his hands and it's going to take time.

By all accounts from the Daily Mail Favre is having second thoughts about become Palace manager and is possibly considering making a u turn over the lack of transfer funds and the scale of the job. ………Now that would be icing on the cake

South London & Proud
Sometimes I really wonder if family are really worth it.
