But Brexit is very influential on the refugee problem. We have lost our voice in the EU and we are therefore unable to change future policies there.

In relation to international organised crime, which is what fuels most of the people trafficking across the channel, our exit from Europol which was not even necessary post-Brexit has robbed us of valuable intelligence. It’s quite possible that the criminals presently have better cross border cooperation and coordination than the UK has.

There is no need to talk down Brexit it does all its own work in that direction. We are all waiting for a single benefit to be identified, nothing is forthcoming yet.

The EU open border policy and “no check” Schengen area has done nothing but harm to the fight against people smuggling.

It's easy to come on here to mock, criticize and insult. Any Joe can do that. It requires no substance.

You think that membership of the EU would benefit us in the long run as regards refugees and international crime? You are deluded.

Remember. Most of the international crime that affects Britain occurs because of the immigration policy that fools like you support.
If we are not protecting our own borders properly, that is a matter for the British government to deal with.

I believe that I have been civil, I apologise if you have felt otherwise. Robust changing of your ideas and the evidence that you present to support them is not uncivil. I will therefore disregard the second sentence of your post and put it down to naivety, exuberance and bravado. I do not come to mock you or to insult you. I am here to criticise and challenge

It’s difficult to know whether remaining in the EU would have made any direct short term difference to the situation regarding refugees. That ship has sailed. These people have left their countries because of conflicts that relate to foreign policies pursued by the US, Russia and others over the past twenty years. As regards international crime I think that remaining in Europol would have been a good idea, however, the government decided to leave probably just because the organisation has ‘Euro’ in its name. International crime requires international action. Action against money laundering, drugs and people smuggling requires cooperation and coordination.

International criminals will exploit whatever opportunities are available to them to make money. The largest percentage of activity in this area is in relation to drugs. Other than in a very tangential way I cannot see what this has to do with immigration policy.

How is it possible to be anything other than negative about Brexit? Everything that was presented as a benefit has subsequently proved to be false.

It will be interesting to see what remains, I guess we will have to rename it Little England.

Very little of that would be English, the NHS will hopefully hold out.

The rest all foreign owned, private equity companies etc. the forth-coming tory sell-offs will actually leave very few assets left to strip.

Run for the benefit of a tiny portion of the super-rich.

Indeed, on LBC theres an advert now saying,"do you need to speak to a doctor?". For just £29 you get a face to face consultation-online obvs, and includes your prescription or a sick note if required. We are going down the American route unfortunately, doctors aren"t seeing patients , under covid excuse, and people
with problems are paying to go private. After 11 years in power, we can sincerely say gentlemen, in boris we trust!

As for the far right what exactly is their thinking bearing in mind the bnp and edl had black and Asian members if that is who you mean. Its about the country not the colour. I would also add a section on blm into that alignment, would you?

I've criticised BLM loads of times. EDL and BLM use that same trick to groom members. On the face of it, both their names sound fairly reasonable, although the outcome both want to achieve is pretty sinister.

An agreement in principle I guess

Let me be clear. What you say is of no consequence to me. Your apology is wasted. However, you got personal, and when you do that, you get no quarter on here.

It's Hrolf's policy if you like.

What you need to get into your head is that Brexit is a reality. Most people who voted for it didn't think that there would not be bumps in the road I'm sure.
Sadly, on top of that, we have to listen to people like you with your negativity. You need to get with the programme.

Immigration always brings crime, it always has, and you know full well the reasons why. Stop pretending you don't.

That has to be the daftest assertion you have made this year, and it has plenty of competition.

Most immigration is from immigrants who want to work, support their families and make a better life for themselves.

It also enables our economy to function when, without it, it would quickly fail.

Just go visit your local hospital for the evidence of that.

The idea that the economy couldn't run without immigration is so daft.....I mean it ran without any significant immigration for most of the country's existence.

The situation created where services like the NHS have more foreign labour working within it than average has been entirely a political and economic choice made by the elites in charge.

They made the decision to buy in foreigners and any change in policy to nationalise the NHS's workforce would be gradual and eventually not require significant foreign/immigrant workers.

It's so obvious that I tire of the simplistic repeated slogans.

Idealistic nonsense and no idea how things actually work in practice.

Hang on....I realise I'm on the French thread here....my mistake

While I enjoy the 'robust' debate, I really do want to respect the OP's request. So I'll try to keep any future posts on here about the topic matter.

How it worked when? What economy are you comparing to the modern day economy?
