Wind turbines take about 60 years to balance the emmisions used to manufacture and install them so to fit with the policy of cleaner energy is a red herring.
Solar is not as efficient as portrayed for the above reasons.
A windfall tax would work; once or maybe twice but using this and expecting it to be an annual take is folly. Business would either move or just spend the excess profits.
Nuclear was the way 30 years ago but CND and green peace got their way; even though its one of the cheapest, cleanest, safest and most efficient way of producing power.

You’ve got to wonder what goes on behind the scenes in the Tory party and government with them and the chancellor being unprepared for

1) The public finding out about his wife’s non dom status avoiding millions in tax (while living in Downing Street and using Britain’s facilities/services) It is legal but when you’re imposing taxes and tougher financial constraints on people who vote for you? Forget being PM in future.

2) The Sunak’s holding US green cards until more than a year into being chancellor. This can enable them to pay US tax rather than British taxes.

Did nobody know or see or hear this coming? This was clearly held back for maximum effect at a time when Sunak makes unfavourable decisions on tax. The whole lot of them are hypocrites with their snouts in the trough. The obvious cronyism going on probably explains why none of this was ever spoken about or corrected with payments to HMRC. No sympathy for Sunak. You can’t be a hypocrite in his position and expect to be untouchable.

Yeah, they only got 4%, we got 54%, and going up again in October-but they didn"t get freedom!- and freedoms going to lower our bills in time- Jacob said it could take 50 years- but who cares- you might starve or freeze to death waiting- but trust in this CONservative government- give them time, 12 years isn"t long enough to get things sorted, be fair, in time they will come good!

Labours proposed windfall tax on energy companies excess profits would have covered the £700 rise, for this time only.

There is no prospect of us becoming more energy efficient in fact the governments proposals are fundamentally flawed and damaging to the climate.

By the time any of their old-hat policies come into play in 10 years time we will need mortgages to pay the energy bills alone.

Solar and wind are here now they are the cheapest and most efficient solutions.

So is the long overdue insulation of our leaking homes.
