Salaries look correct for 20/21.They are all obscene but the players have every right to get paid what the market rate is. With Benteke it is no surprise that he was not interested in a move to Burnley even if his pay was lower from this season.

I have a theory why footballers get it more in the neck than pop stars or other sports people / celebrities. 1. There are more of them earning a good salary so a bigger target. Even in League 1 there are some players on very good wages. 2. Football is a mass participation grass roots sport, most of us grow up believing that we could play to a certain level or that we at least understand how the game should be played. How many of us can read music, play an instrument or hit a tennis ball (a lot less than can play football). Still I think they are over paid for what they do but that won't change unless the TV money collapses.

This was what the Athletic's Dom Fifield said when he renewed his contract: Has the striker taken a wage cut? However, their hopes of prolonging Benteke’s stay on significantly reduced terms may have been thwarted by the player’s fine end to the current campaign. Regardless, in a summer of upheaval at Selhurst Park, retaining the player would represent a more cost-effective solution than signing a striker from elsewhere. With his contract renewed before a manager was appointed and the fact that even with his form over the last 3 years, it's not unrealistic to think another club would have offered him £100k+ pw wages on a free. I'd be surprised if he took a drastic pay cut, especially after scoring 5 in his last 8 games of the season.
