Conor CAN play if Chelsea give permission.

Rule 15. (j) (i) of the rules of the FA Challenge Cup 21-22 states:

A player on a domestic temporary (loan) transfer (including a player on loan either to or from a Welsh Club that competes in the Competition in the current season) is ineligible to compete in the Challenge Cup Competition unless permission to do so is given by the lending Club in writing (which, for the avoidance of doubt, can include appropriate wording and/or the completion of tick boxes in any loan form) and a copy is received by The Association by the Registration Deadline for that round.

It depends what the Loan Agreement said and whether Chelsea want to reverse any decision to prevent him playing (if one already exists).

This applies to a 'Temporary' loan/short term loan, NOT a season long loan which CG is on to us.

All that rules states is whether or not a player is given permission by the lending club to play in the FA cup or not . Quite clearly Conor has. It says nothing about if the player can then play against the lending club in that competition. My assumption would be that if he has been allowed to play in the FA cup then he can play against any team Palace are drawn against , lending club included.

All this talk on Gallagher shows just how much he means to us all. If there is any way he could stay, bring it on. Failing that I do feel with the coaching our boys are getting we will be ok. Clearly our management and coaching techniques are literally altering all our players for the much better. I’m confident if Conor has to go back we will find an alternative but good solution.

Surely whether CG can play will be governed by the terms of the loan agreement.

Even if there is a prohibition in the current climate it would be a nice gesture for Chelsea to agree to a variation which would not only enhance their players big game experience but also earn them much needed praise at this tricky time.

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not……

If Chelsea have it written in the agreement that he can't then he can't.
If they haven't then he has already played in the cup for us this season so he can.

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but it seems the FA rules are quite clear. In the section on loan arrangements, it states:-

(iv) The Association will not give permission for players on loan or work experience to play against the lending Club.

If we beat Chelsea then, as with today, he should be granted permission by Chelsea to play, but that doesn't seem an option for the semi.

They will just have to "do it for Conor".

I’m thinking we’ll be the Saturday.

Chelsea play Real Madrid on the Tuesday before and City and Liverpool play their champions league matches on Wednesday so probably makes most sense to have us and Chelsea on the Sat.

EDIT - A little more research makes me think I’m wrong as Liverpool are down to play United on the 19th April, if that goes ahead we’ll be the Sunday, my bad.

I believe the rationale is that a loan player may not be trusted not to throw the game if playing against his home club. Or at least there could be doubt if he made a mistake.

That makes sense to me.

I believe this ruling goes back quite a few years, as I seem to remember a pretty irate Sir Bobby Robson being pretty pissed off that Lua Lua who was on loan at the time to Portsmouth scoring against his 'Parent Club' Newcastle Utd
