What is very encouraging for us is we are becoming an attractive club to sign new players. Our top grade Academy, three current young players called up for England and a progressive manager all contribute to making us a good place to come and not the previous 'poor relation' we were when bidding for new signings.

There's always that nagging doubt as a Palace fan that this could all fall apart quite suddenly and spectacularly.

People in here are going way overboard. We spent a fair amount of money you would expect a lot better quality. Look at the league position we have not done like West Ham our position is about the same as previously plus the season is not over we cant really move up much but can drop down. Have people forgotten that a man named Alan took us to a cup final with a team you could say was full of championship quality players and we have not reached the final yet. Look at our results all season we have messed up many times against teams we should be doing better against also we are inconsistent with the manager still at time making very questionable decisions. Next season is the real test we need more investment in the squad and need to show we can be in solid top 10.

Our squad was/is low on PL experience as is the manager, things take time. I can’t believe comments like this when, for the first time in several seasons I actually enjoy watching us.

The Pardew 12 months does tend to get overlooked but full of champo quality players it wasn't. It was perhaps the first iteration of the team that was PL quality from top to bottom. That was a terrific midfield and attack. Damo is the perhaps the ringer in this lot depending on where you stand on Wickham. Hennessey

I cast my mind back to the end of last season and the departure of Roy and some of the doom and gloom comments on here. "We'll never survive without Roy", "all our players are out of contract and over the hill" yadda yadda.

Yeah, Gallagher's gone. He deserves his chance at Chelsea who are clearly his first love. I just hope by the age of 24 he is a proper starter. I'd hate to see him in U23 football, with the career clock ticking away as he waits for his big break, a la Loftus Cheek. IF we were to ever sign Gallagher, I think it will be in about 3 years time, if his Chelsea career stalls and our stature is half decent. I actually think Zaha will go when it suits us. As he ages, I see it more likely he'll become a squad rotation player with us than a signing elsewhere. He deserves to score the winning goal in a cup final more than anyone else.

PV and Freedman / Parish have manged to rebuild our team in one transfer window and we are playing attractive football. We may still be about par with last year but if not for the rebuild we should surely have gone down this season. We now have a young attractive side if we can hold onto our players and manager for next season I see us improving our league position. We also have the added benefit that as a club we should now be more attractive to incoming players who should want to play under PV and along side Zaha, Guehi, Mitchell, Olise and Eze. As for Gallagher he had an average season at WBA but has now shown his qualities with us, PV must take some credit for that. If I was a player I would want to play for a manager that is going to improve my game. The points total may not bear it out but I think we have had a fantastic season considering the alternative. Every team/manager needs a little luck and the lack of injuries in defence has been a godsend as we have limited cover. We lost/released 3 centre backs in the summer so that left Kelly and Tomkins. Neither had played much in previous seasons due to injury and so it was clearly an area we needed to address. This season when Tomkins has played he has looked very uncomfortable so any extended injuries to Guehi/Andersen would have been problematic. Similarly we really only have 1 LB so Mitchell's improvements have been great to watch. He hasn't had a booking this season too, which is remarkable. We are still definitely in transition and are nowhere near the completed package but we are moving in the right direction. As for Royball i think we were ok last season until the 7.0 v Liverpool. After that he became very cautious.

With regards Gallagher, I think it was Wrighty who said he has a big decision to make with his future. Whether to go back to Chelsea and fight for a place and not play regularly damaging his England chances or join Palace , play regularly get in the England squad and play in WC and Euros."I know what I would do" Originally posted by Badger11
