Just out of interest, what percentage of illegal immigrants do you think we should be welcoming?

You cannot manage such things by fixing percentages. Every event/case has to be determined on its merits. Genuine refugees who cannot be safely returned need to be treated with compassion.

Our primary opportunity in stemming the flow of wholly economic migration is to participate in efforts to detect and nullify the criminal people trafficking gangs.

They are here illegally. That is all you need to know.

If you want to live in Britain, then apply through the proper channels.

You advocate breaking the law now?

Not all refugees are opportunists. Some are fleeing peril.

That doesn't mean that we can take keep taking them. We have an existing population to look after, many of whom are struggling to pay taxes already, while illegals, travellers and the like pay none and cost us all.

We are talking about refugees, often fleeing war or starvation. In most cases, I doubt facilities exist for formal visa applications, let alone the knowledge on how to access them.

It's not breaking any laws. It's abiding by the internationally agreed conventions we have signed up to.

Your weasel words effectively confirm your attitude is as I described it. It stinks. Thus, it's odious.

War or starvation in Calais?

Or in any of the other countries they have passed through to reach our shores?

How the other countries respond and how we coordinate with them are complex issues which aren't easily solved and have also been compromised by Brexit.

That though does not reduce our own obligations, or the practical difficulties we face.

Everyone knows this is not a desirable situation, just as we all know that sh*t stinks. Saying so repeatedly is easy, but does nothing to find a workable, legal and moral solution.

Of course the moral aspect is important and in an ideal world we should continue to accept genuine refugees but there are already more than a quarter of a million homeless people in England who need to be considered as well.

We live in a very troubled world. Have you read the stories coming out of Afghanistan? You think we have it tough?

I don't pretend to know the answers. I just know the questions make me feel worried that this relatively trouble free life I have enjoyed is not the destiny of my grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

One of your stupidest posts so far.

Those genuinely fleeing war can stay in numerous other countries between there and here.

Our immigration rules are there to protect this country. Clearly, you think that everyone else's problems and ambitions are more important than ours.

You clearly have no capacity to think beyond next week.

I think your politics and Tony Blairís messianic complex are a cause of a lot of that. And by the time your children pass away your grandchildren will be taxed to the hilt on their inheritance. I hope they appreciate and are grateful for their tiny property the size of your study.

You wonder sometimes if WE just has a reflex defence of globalism and hasn't actually looked at what's coming down the pipe and thought it through.

Illogical ideology. Always

This was well worth watching. You probably posted the link

With your odious attitudes, you would think that, wouldn't you? It's par for your course.

Those fleeing war could stay in many countries. They could also have many reasons for wanting to come here. Family and language being the obvious ones. To successfully achieve what you want demands the full, uncompromised support of every country on their intended route and for them to insist on people staying with them, against their will. Playing "pass the parcel" is, regrettably, perhaps, much more likely. It always was, but Brexit has made their motivations even stronger.

You can write whatever rules you want, but for them to work requires that they be honoured by all involved, or for us to find ways of forcing them to be. When we are also bound by international conventions, that is just pie in the sky.

Yours is a wish list. It isn't a policy. Yet you "think" I cannot think! Nuts!

Tony Blair?

I don't think he had much to do with climate change, Putin, the impact of coronavirus or the stupidity of Brexit.

You are doing what I so often witness in these pages. Make statements about problems without ever making any realistic suggestions on how to overcome them.

All people want to do is look around for people to blame. People who adopted strategies they now believe to be responsible for all that is wrong with our country, and bleat about them endlessly.

When I read this kind of stuff, I am always reminded of Alf Garnett. If only Alf had supported Palace, rather than West Ham, he could have been a popular member of the gang on here, back scratching away in mutual admiration.

Although to be fair to you, Rudi, you are often the most reasonable of the crew.
