With bells on. and so overdue.

This labour party is so out of touch, they don't even know what type of party they are trying to be.

Perfect example is Labour putting out anti-Lib Dem material stating that the libs want to legalise drugs and soften punishments... when numerous studies have shown there is considerable appetite for legalisation and softening of punishments within public opinion and the labour membership specifically.

It's basically an advert for those people to vote lib-dem... from Labour.

A shame because others have said it should have been a total walk given the performance of the government.

What, you mean like steering us out of the EU and achieving one of the lowest Covid death rates in Europe?

Maybe it's the near full employment or perhaps the higher minimum wage.

I suppose you think that the Ukraine conflict, fuel prices or global supply problems are their fault too.

I don't consider 'steering us out of the EU' an achievement, particularly given the mountain of problems it's created and livelihoods it has ruined. One day we might be able to acknowledge this honestly, but for now the whole country will keep tip-toeing around not hurting leavers feeling and pretend it was a good idea.

We are above the global average of excess Covid deaths and manage to waste billions in the process

Near full employment; more people on benefits, food banks than ever before, zero-hour contracts and workers rights on their arse. Brilliant.

A higher minimum wage while the cost of living and inflation explodes - not even close to enough.

Being generous, you can say this government have been poor - I would say a hell of a lot worst, but surely you don't actually think they have done well?

I think that you will find that the UK has the highest Covid death rate in Europe. Plus, it was this government that (illegally) sent untested elderly patients back into to care homes causing the avoidable death of thousands. Whilst claiming to have put a "protective ring" around care homes.

Maybe steered us out of the EU but the manner is which they did it is now being felt. "No border in the Irish sea" etc.

I really don't think we are anywhere near full employment and that is probably impossible anyway.

I would imagine that over 90% of tory MP's voted against the creation of the minimum wage. Claiming increasing it as a government virtue rings a bit hollow.

I guess we each see what we want to see rather that what is in plain sight.

The problem with that is that pretty much all of that is a load of cobblers.

To reiterate. Our covid death rate is one of the lowest in Europe, as show by the latest figures for extra deaths above the normal rate of mortality. Not bad for a country with one of the highest densities of population.

Inflation would be worse for many if the minimum wage was not increased. Inflation is not the fault of this government, so your statement was just stupid.

Zero hours contracts are not ideal, neither are poorer working conditions, but they are better than being on the dole, which is where many more would be under Labour.

I have yet to see any evidence that leaving the EU has had any sort of catastrophic effect on anything. Do produce some if you can find it. I won't hold my breath.

According to this we were mid table, still not good but not the worse.

Highest? In terms of death rate by population we weren't in the top 10.

I don't think I will. Check the latest WHO findings.

Farily predictable results really. Not a great night for Con or Lab. Slows how much faith people have in either.

There is a well deserved antipathy toward politicians.

There is also apathy toward local elections, which is unfortunate since they are likely to have more of a direct effect on one's circumstances than a general election.

Labour and Liberal councils have been notoriously useless, so party loyalties can be misplaced.

covid death rates? Talk about clutching at straws.

Most Brits seem to think that most of the tory disasters will not affect them, the extra 500 is a bung they can live with, if some poor unfortunates have to use a food bank why should they worry.

The years of easy living on the back of borrowing against assets unrelated to productivity thrift or enterprise, but highly dubious property values, may be ending.

Isn't it all just a house of cards?

European Centre For Disease Prevention reports that as of 2/5/22 Italy has the highest covid death rate within the EU at 163,889.

[Link]

The figure for total UK covid deaths as of 5/5/22 from official government figures is 175,984 (within 28days of positive test) or 192,464 with covid on death certificate.

[Link]

I don't know which figures are most accurate but none of them suggest that our government achieved one of the lowest death rates in Europe.

Shifting your position now. You said we had the highest rate, which was crap.
We had a better rate than other large European countries with relatively dense populations.

I'd say that was a win.
