Personally I would not be upset if we dodge the Aribo bullet. Let Southampton take him, just like Armstrong last season! We have enough talent in that position and our money could be spent strengthening other areas such as more cover in defence.
Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs. |

Seems that up to £10 million is the going rate for players you take a punt on from the lower leagues or SPL. If they make the grade you make a profit and if not they can go back without too big a loss. Aribo is definitely championship standard. Not sure he’s quite premier league though. There are gems to be had in the SPL but I don’t think he’s one of them.

Downes - this seems the most likely Zaha - now that's someone I'd almost forgotten about over the last couple of weeks. Am I being too simple in thinking that if there was any interest in him at all someone would have picked up a rumour, or a hint of a rumour? Maybe there's been one, but I haven't heard or read anything.

So as I keep saying Doucoure deal done no need to panic on this. Palace had agreed a deal with Downes for £7.5m & medical was booked in for Friday then today West Ham came in & offered a deal totalling £12m it now looks like he is off there. Whilst we thought we had that deal wrapped Southampton swooped in for Aribo we may now try to hijack that deal if we have indeed missed out on Downes. MGW I’m hearing is total rubbish. In relation to Olise I’m told he does not have a release clause. All off what I have said has been correct to date I can’t help if clubs then hijack these deals at the last minute. We will see what the next few days bring.

This totally depends on what happens with Downes, but I’d suggest you avoid saying things like “to be confirmed this week” when the deal is far from being at that stage. That being said, we could still sign him, but it seems we were never as close as you suggested if we were indeed open to others offering more money to secure the deal. Quite why people believe someone would come on this site to share legit transfer news, I don’t really know. What annoys me more, is that I find myself doing the same bloody thing lol
