Perhaps I should have posted that I certainly don't condone his behaviour.
I was merely advocating possible reasons for his deplorable actions.

I can just imagine the first day at work. “What can possibly go wrong”, he thought and then all of a sudden, “this bloke pushed me, so I nutted him, is that ok here?”

Decoure was as you say but I think he needs a few more games to get in the swing and be the player we are told he could be. I believed the hype and expected him to be the player the pundits were talking about.

Richards, I expected less, but hope he will also be quietly effective when in harness.

Both will look better against lesser opponents.

On the sending off, f<ck the pundits. The only view that matters was Tierney's and he got it right. And Sky did not defend the headbutt.

BTW, great team performance, clung on resolutely but the gap between top and middle remains huge. They dominated possession and attacked us relentlessly, even with a man down. We scored with one attack. You say we could have scored a couple more and that is true. The problem of poor conversion is still not resolved. But we were not alone. Our goal was charmed last night. If they had won 4-0 no neutral would have been shocked.

^^ Agree with all of that. ^^

Not sure if mentioned yet but I think yesterday was very promising in may ways aside from a good point for us.

It started off.. and actually ended ever so reminiscent of 'Royball' however I would have laughed at the notion of Vieira, who has got us playing like a progressive, established PL team as opposed to a team staving off an inevitable relegation each year, would be able to pull off such a stunt, with those players too. We also looked far better going forward than I anticipated.

I feel much more relieved and hopeful as a result of the aforementioned. I questioned Vieira's ability to get this set of players to play in such a way as much as I did Roy's to have us playing anything close to progressive football. Pat has showed he can do both which is highly admirable and again promising.

Eze looked awful at times however showed his class and of course when it mattered most. I had feared he'd be lost to the Davy Jones' locker of player who never quite came back from injury. He needs a defined place in the team however, I would still like him ahead of Doucoure +1. Wilf again looks as though he can very much play the CF role however needs a bit more time in there and a bit more work on it but promising, his finishing has come on leaps and bounds. Was a very poor goal to concede yesterday but thought defence were magnificent otherwise. Great to see Olise back too, he looked slightly more 'beastly' or at least less frail than last season and looked sharp for first minutes back.

Our season feels like it's started now after the poor showing against Arse, let's hope we kick on against Villa. Absolutely love my club.

COYP

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I was teasing. It seems Sky were better at reporting the incident than on TSN, although to be fair Owen was clear in his condemnation. I think maybe it was Wright that wound me up more. It's a shame Clinton can't be a pundit on all our games as not only does he stick up for us, but he is also like an excitable puppy which is refreshing.

It wouldn't be that surprising if we end up being the only team to leave Anfield with something this season so have to be happy with a point. If you'd offered me 1 point at this stage 15 minutes into the Arsenal game I'd have taken it. Our pre-season was a shambles so this is a decent start.

Eze, Andersen looking very good; Guehi recovered from his Arsenal horror show;

Zaha lacking consistency. Brilliantly scores the most difficult chance and misses two comparatively straightforward ones. If he could bury those he'd be playing for Liverpool/City/Bayern.

We badly need to upgrade Schlupp. Any game where we have McArthur play this season we'll look a better team. Hopefully we can get someone in.

Ayew will be ineffective with these rules but we'll probably see little of him now Olise is back.

I'm not getting the greatest sense of confidence from Guaita at the minute. Seems slow getting out to players (Nunez hitting the post, Milner in the first minute) and he's had a few questionable handling moments e.g. that one he dropped at Andersen's feet that he had to put behind. Johnstone definitely has a chance of getting his spot.

Some good points.

Yes, Schlupp just not a CM - maybe LWB yesterday could have suited him better. If we are playing 3 CBs the wing backs need to come forward - it was like 5 at the back last night. The 2 Liverpool full backs played in midfield most of the game.

Eze and Zaha - some great moments, and some terrible moments. At times they both look disinterested and don't appear to read the game, then the next moment both do things that mere mortals can only dream of. Eze taking people on is a joy to watch.

Agree re Ayew, those soft fouls are just not being given and that's a large part of his game.

I thought VC in goal did quite well.

Carragher, the Liverpool correspondent, reckoned that although Wilf took his goal well they always concede breakaway goals so it was essentially to be expected which seemed unfair.
As has been said we rode our luck but at the same time limited them to a few long shots and everyone put in a shift.
The new refereeing leniency adds a different dimension - the "Big" clubs can't rely on free kicks and penalties when they need them.

The new refereeing leniency has ruined Ayews game, he can no longer just fall over and get a free kick, that’s he ever seemed to do.

Yes, we rode our luck, but luck isn’t always on our side, as the home game last season Jota was given a penalty for jumping into Guaita.

Eze took the pi$$ out the Liverpool players a couple of times, but he also made the wrong decision a couple of times, including a couple of weird passes out of play. Liverpool are probably the best pressing team in the league though and against weaker opposition I think he's going to take it to another level this season. His weighted passes are a thing of beauty and it seems Doucoure has that in his locker too. I agree that another defensive midfielder alongside Doucoure would help allow Eze to have more freedom to do what he does best.

Brilliant. Anywhere else in the city is fine son, just not in the ground.

PV made it quite clear it was meant to be 5 at the back last night. He may well use the same 5-4-1 against Citeh at the Etihad and rely on the counter-attack.

I don't believe that 3 at the back is going to be PV's preferred system. It will depend on who we're playing. I'm expecting 4-3-3 next week against Villa when we can expect to have a decent amount of possession. He hasn't suddenly morphed into Hodgson Mark II. He said he's looking to develop more flexibility in our game options.

Agree with all of that.

He's shown he still has 'it' which I did fear for but if Eze does step up a gear it could be inspiring for us.
