In terms of 'Net Spend' since season 2017-18, I believe there is not too much variance between Brighton and ourselves.

It depends where you start and stop I am referring to the transfer dealing before last season.

I have posted the numbers in the past but can't be bothered to find them. Since then of course We have spent £80 and brighton have sold players at a profit for the gap today is probably close but not when PV came in.

I agree but then there's a lot of unrealistic visions of us a club. Thanks to the Ownership, managers, ( some better than others) the players again some more than others we have been punching if not above our weight for some years now in the loadsofmoney league. Well done everyone I reckon.

FFS we have lost one game . I wasnt happy with the recruitment in the summer and i said so to Carragher when i was interviewed by him before the Arsenal game . We relied on Jimmy Mac being fit and Gallagher coming back on loan, neither of which has happened. However reading some of the posts on here are unreal. We have had 1 very poor performance which Patrick has acknowledged. This comes after 2 wins and a draw , and after putting up good performances against the big 4 where we deserved a lot more than we got and schluup and Dacourie were not overun in midfield . We just need to bounce back against the Saints ,and then get to January and recruit. As to people on here talking relegation you need to get real

Perhaps we will all have to just accept some inconsistency in performances and results.
Olise and Eze are young and relatively inexperienced and are likely at this stage to continue to blow hot and cold.
Despite his brilliance, Zaha also tends to have inconsistent spells which are occasionally illuminated by a match changing moment.
Edouard also seems to be taking time to adjust to demands of the premier league with only fleeting glimpses of potential.
Having said this, if one looks at the season as a whole so far the performances have been decent, with the exception of Leicester and Everton.
I remain optimistic for this season, but strengthening of the first team (as opposed to just the squad) is necessary in January and we need to keep our centre backs fit.

Did we rely on Gallagher coming back and a fit Macca. Would Vieira have started one of those alongside Dacoure or would he have kept doing what he is doing now and just playing one recognised midfielder? Certainly not wanting PV sacked but as for relegation that’s something teams from 7 or 8th down can happen to as it’s going to be close in my opinion for all? I’m not expecting relegation but we need a balanced team and our midfield/playing style doesn’t have that at this time. Our subs aren’t strong enough to change games as our attacking players normally make up most the midfield. One, probably two of those presently playing in the first 11 need to be game changers from the bench. As for the 3 matches before yesterday, we were very lucky and could easily have lost all 3. Everton yesterday were balanced but also beatable if we had set our stall better. It’s a tight division outside the top 6 and yesterday we weren’t at the races and in my opinion we weren’t that good in the previous 3 matches. Up the Palace :-)

Patrick Vieira often refers to "Performance" - he must be horrified and indeed disappointed about how his team performed yesterday.

It is clear that the squad needs to be strengthened, however the club have spent in the region of £100 Mill since he has been at the helm and we are not a major club with a bottomless pit of money.

Which is basically what he said in his post-match interview. It was noticeable that he said it was the FIRST time he had come away from a game really disappointed with the team's performance and how we were second best.

I haven't bothered reading many posts on this thread but some of the flak aimed at Vieira seems OTT to me. We had a bad game. It happens. We will be much better next week.

Finally, I will, no doubt be echoing others by saying that yesterday showed just how important Doucoure is.

We seemed to play a really weird 4-3-3 wide with only wide players and three in the spine - it didn't work as our midfield general is more like a midfield POW and our centre forward is powder puff. We have an abundance of no 10s but little else. We play those as inside forwards who don't cross, yet our goals usually come from crosses. Add to that suddenly Mitchell has gone and Guehi's not great then you see the consequences.
Our squad so poor that people can't get dropped even when just pants. That has to hurt Vieira.

In absolute terms correct but we lost half a squad in the summer Roy left and it wasn't the strongest of squads to start with. The £100m had bought us half a dozen decent players and a couple of youngsters who might make it. We're still short in several areas.

At the beginning of last season we were relegation favourites in many pundits view.

To be totally honest I have never been overly impressed by both Mitchell and Guehi and how they were selected for England is beyond my comprehension.
I suppose in their defence they are both in their early 20s and quite inexperienced at top-level.

But ask yourself, why is this? It seems to be Vieira's little pet project to play 4-3-3 whatever may happen, as he tries to bang square pegs into round holes. No matter what, Zaha, Eze, Olise, and Ayew must start, nevermind that none of them are the type of midfielder we actually need in the team capable of performing next to Doucoure. Shambles.

I always think managers have preferred systems. The classic is Klopp, no surprise it's been worked out. At Palace I would agree we need a rethink. Putting Zaha central may be something that changes the side. No more Edouard or Mateta. Edouard with the ball at feet has the pace of an old woman.

Stan, we’ve had five appalling halves of football out of the last six. The problems run deeper than you make out and a bounce back convincing performance against the Saints is far from certain.

A lot of our supporters are concerned and rightly so.
