After the initial media criticism of how the World Cup was designated, it was refreshing to read the sports and front pages to find football where it should be.
No fans drunken rioting (not even in the UK), no players antics with 'models' and dentist chairs.
Just very professional coverage of a somewhat stilted affair, seemingly lacking in emotion and over-excitement.
It'll be interesting to see how the next Euro's pans out in comparison.

It was France who had the dodgy penalty awards.

The ball retention and passing kills of Messi and Modric, at 35 and 37, are an example I hope our players were watching.

A lot of poor finishing in the tournament imo, the winners invariably had the final pass and touch.

Pat Vieira please note we are a bit of a one-trick Zaha pony.

A lot of the fouling the opposition do to us with impunity throughout the tournament. That's what we should learn (relearn?) - an edge. Argentina were playacting, cheating, fouling, throwing balls - everything bar invading a sovereign territory - in order to win the game.

Absolutely the best team won. Eighty minutes of domination turned on a penalty resulting from a dive! It lead to an intense and exciting climax but the result was right. It would otherwise have been a travesty! Jules must be delighted!

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time!

Hate to say it, but Brighton's MacAllister is having a good game. Second half just started and this is Argentina's to lose.

Two things. First, there are now loads of empty seats and second, I bet Macron isn't feeling so smug now.

Their recruitment team has done wonders in the last few years in the international market. Trossard for £16m from Genk, Mac Allister for £8m from Argentinos Juniors, Robert Sanchez as a youth player from Levante, Moses Caicedo for £5m from Independiente, Cucurella for £11m from Getafe....

£40m spent and when including the £60m Cucurella was sold for, you'd not get much change out of £200m trying to buy the lot.

Comparatively, we're dog**** in terms of international scouting. Before Doucoure, the best player we've introduced to the UK in the past 5 years is between Guaita and Mateta with third place a long way off (maybe Sorloth?)

I'm still none the wiser whether Argentina are a actually a decent international side. They just seemed to be able to edge past teams in the crucial moments and get a fair share of luck when they needed it most.

Something I wish for both Palace and England yet both never seen to happen!!

Interesting how opinions differ as I thought they played some lovely football at times. A full throttled approach that's always going to present them with opportunities, a decent number of which they take.

Seems a long time ago since Saudi Arabia took them apart in the first game but the Argies pulled themselves together , got the luck when it was needed and stumbled across the line winning two penalty competitions on route to lifting the cup . Apart from its not a cup its a gold orb sort of thing .

Im still bitter , cant believe we couldnt beat the shambles that was on view in this w/c . It wasnt the best final ever it was an exhibition of shambolic defending , poor refereeing and a broken VAR system .
How the Argy didn't get a straight red for the elbow into Loris in the first few minutes proved nobody was watching . The Yank in charge of the monitor missed that along with Di Maria tripping himself up for the first pen

The French apparently all suffering from Camel flu offered little till the 80th minute when another fortunate penalty decision and a great strike for Mbappe gave them an unlikely draw .

The Qataries got what they wanted a game of football Messi lifting the cup and the opportunity to brand it 'the best game ever' lapped up by the worlds media in the biggest excercise of sportswashing they could have hoped for . The rehearsed Messi in the Kings robe at the presentation was as sickening as it was laughable

Well thank all that is holy that its over , we can now resume some propper footy that is the Premier league where the bloke from Brighton goes back to being the bloke from Brighton not the best player on the pitch in a World cup final ,

I need a drink , Merry Christmas

And we still need a striker

I didn't watch the game but I gather that Gary Neville decided to have a political rant comparing workers rights in Britain to those in Quatar?
I know it is on Twitter but I cannot hear to watch him say it?
Please tell me that I am wrong?

Ultimately a very exciting final, although we shouldn't forget that for 80 minutes it wasn't really much of a match as France were a bit like Brazil in 1998 i.e. pretty ineffectual.

A lot of pundits are saying it was the best World Cup Final ever. I'm not sure about that. There have certainly been some rather dull ones - Italy v. Brazil 1994, and Spain v. Netherlands 2010, particularly spring to mind.

But, I wouldn't argue about it having the most thrilling climax to a WC final, even if it is somewhat unsatisfactory having such a game settled on penalties.
