The recent CDC statement is about how we should manage Covid NOW. Not 2 or 3 years ago. That’s because the pandemic has been brought under control through the vaccination programme and prior exposure building up sufficient immunity in most people. That wasn’t the case when we did not have the vaccines, when the disease was poorly understood and threatened to overwhelm the provision of our healthcare systems. Perhaps you genuinely don’t understand but given your past comments I suspect that you are being wilfully argumentative.

Whatever caveats you insert the vaccinated percentage is lower than we should expect from those who are supposed to be encouraging others.

It’s no one’s “fault” if the data isn’t collected by the Trusts who have got rather a lot of important work to do. Who knows what the true picture is without all the data. I don’t know how much is missing. Nor do you and nor does whoever produced that “chart”. Therefore that “chart” is misinformation. I can though tell you that my wife, who has had all the boosters, confirms that a number of her young colleagues who are entitled to receive the boosters as frontline workers but who would not if they weren’t, have decided they are well enough protected now after several vaccinations and infections. My understanding is they want to see the vulnerable get the priority.

It determines trends and is used internally. It is not intended to present an overall picture for external consumption and for use by sceptics with agendas. Those who refused vaccinations when the threat was high and the NHS in danger of being overwhelmed were indeed selfish, whether they worked for the NHS or not. These days only the vulnerable are receiving boosters so it makes some sense for the age group now known to be at a lower risk to step back.
