A lot of discussion here about the Covid vaccine and the messaging around whether it stopped transmission (which it obviously does not) and this got me thinking about other ‘more traditional’ vaccines such as polio for example and whether these actually stop transmission or just attempt to lessen the effects of catching the virus?

Anyone know the answer to this please?

With polio, you can be vaccinated and therefore unaffected by the bacteria in your gut, but can still transmit that to others.

Thank you..

Do any vaccines stop transmission then?

Maybe have a look at who is funding these so called "fact checkers" follow the money as they say...

Interesting article from a few years back:
[Link]

So a right-wing "magazine" has a pop at those who check the kind of things they publish? What a surprise. That the social media platforms provide funding is hardly a surprise either as it's very much in their interests to have others looking at things and pointing out errors.

In the end it is for us to decide who we trust. I know who I do. The fact checkers analyse and expose. Only those who are prepared to believe lies don't see that.

From the guy who tells you to look beyond his left wing or neoliberal sources.....but when you provide sources he does exactly what he tells you not to do.

Also, you do realise that AI has no concept. Of anything. It is purely a made up idea. And it is a dangerous idea, far, far more serious than Covid.

Ai has instant access to all sources of reliable, verified information. It will reject misinformation and identify as speculation anything that is no more than that.

I anticipated that it would not be long before the comments made by ChatGPT would start to be criticised here because they won't include any conspiracy theories or anything regarded as misinformation. I thought that would make people feel uncomfortable.

It is a very useful idea. Being able to access real information safe in the knowledge it has been screened to remove untruths that have been inserted into the discussions by those with malign intent which are then picked up and circulated by the easily impressionable, is a helpful development.

When have I ever said people should "look beyond my left-wing or neoliberal sources? Or is this another of your own interpretation of my views? I have never said such a thing. I wouldn't have because I am not "left-wing" and don't use "neoliberal". That's your terminology.

As with everything posted online, first know who is saying it and why they do it.

As I said, in the end, it's up to everyone to decide for themselves who they trust. A fact checker will give reasons why they accept, or reject anything they check. You then decide whether you agree, or not.

It's a useful service which provides a way to find out things quickly and simply.

If you prefer to trust a right-wing magazine that's up to you. I read what they said and it didn't impact the central point of any fact-checking service in any way. It's just their headline which tries to sow doubt.

That looks like a somewhat careless statement made for the best of intentions at a time when overcoming vaccine hesitancy was of paramount consideration.

Right. So no misinformation involved. It was actually a clever ploy by the man who confused the Black and Tans with the All Blacks.

I asked ChatGPT whether Wisbech was left-wing, it responded with:

"Wisbech is a market town in the county of Cambridgeshire, England. It would be incorrect to categorize an entire town as left-wing or right-wing, as political ideologies and leanings can vary among the residents. Political affiliations and ideologies tend to be diverse within any community, and it is likely that Wisbech, like many other towns, has a mix of political perspectives. To understand the political leanings of individuals in Wisbech, it would be necessary to consider local election results, polling data, and the views of residents through surveys or interviews."

This answer seems to indicate that AI doesn't know its backside from a hole in the ground.

You litterally argued against this idea the whole thread. You argued against people deciding for themselves on what to or what not to put in their body.

Anyways fact checkers clearly have agendas they are clearly paid and told what to "fact check"

It was not careless. It was a lie and mis information. Where are the "fact checkers" now.

This is your usual disingenuous waffle, you have indeed said words to that effect, sure you wouldn't use words like left wing or neoliberal even if all your political sources are of that persuasion.

My central point stands.....you have written on here that people should look beyond the sources you post (or words to that effect) yet when it comes to other people posting you straight away attack the source.

As for 'fact checking' it is usually just another way of saying some paid journalists have different opinions.....and as with everything he who pays the piper calls the tune.
