There is no confusion or hypocrisy. The thing you are ignoring is the presence of a discriminatory intention that is unlawful. You are not allowed to discriminate by such as age, sex, colour, religion or sexual orientation. Discriminating by other matters is ok.

You may want to check the 2010 equalities act. I working in mental health and disabilty services can be discrimiataed against. Sex based law, single sex spaces, right to carers of the same sex are forms of discrimination.

Could you explain that again as I don't understand the point you are making. Are you working in the provision of mental health and disability services?

As somebody currently just perusing on an otherwise very quiet post Xmas evening, I'd just like to say I was none the wiser either WE although I often attribute that to either my own poor eyesight, lack of concentration or, and most likely, idiocy.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

As the spirit of seasonal goodwill has not yet evaporated and the glow of a 2-0 away win still fresh let me reassure you, you are far from an idiot.

Long-winded and annoying sometimes but never an idiot. I may disagree with you, but you are polite and not personal.

Oh I can ramble for England! I do have bipolar though so whilst abhorrent to blame it on that and perhaps offend others diagnosed similarly I do often read back and consider the possible benefits the effects of stronger medication might have. I am also guilty of posting comments just for my own amusement but well, see aforementioned.

Gracias apropos my cognitive capability, compliment returned and Happy New Year sir.

Yes, there are cases where you can discriminate. A simple example is restaurants where you can hire for the same ethnicity as the food. Also if you have a strong enough reason along the lines of having a very out of balance workforce. Like aiming to hire more young people when much of your workforce is heading for retirement age. Such dispensations are notoriously hard to justify and are not much used.

Care is an area where they do sometimes get used, personal care is usually given by the same sex as the resident. My mother used to say having personal care from a female was disgusting though, she liked the men.

Sh1te law.

So let's get this right. A production company can hire a black woman to play Ann Boleyn and anyone objecting to this historical abuse gets called a 'racist' and has to tread carefully. But if an 'ethnic' restaurant doesn't want whitey serving up their grub that's totally fine?

Man, this country is frigging hilarious.

The post is nonsense, food cannot have an ethnicity, only people can.

Suppose for a moment it was not nonsense, how would the " ethnicity " of the food be defined, culturally, geographically etc.

The post is incorrect,.

As I remember one of the first prosecutions under anti discrimination legislation was a doctor who advertised for a Scottish housekeeper because he particularly liked porridge.

I suppose there might be religious exemptions such as preparing halal or kosher food but this is quite different from " ethnicity ".

I'm not at all familiar with the law around this area, but it does pose a few thoughts. That being that if we go to an Indian restuarant we do in part I would say expect to find a fair amount of people of heritage from that part of the world working there. As part of the experience if you will. And as such that does then play into whether we should also 'expect' historical characters to be accurately portrayed and so on.

I suppose the latter could fall under due to 'artistic license', and maybe the former is biased towards who would naturally be cooking said dishes culturally, but it is an interesting thing to think about.

In my first posting overseas we had about 25 people in our division of the company that were being housed in the group company labour camp (the group employed maybe 250 people)
We (the management of our division) visited the labour camp, the conditions weren't great (Overcrowded dorms / poor sanitary etc) so we decided that our 25 employees would be better served by us renting a number of villas (houses) near the business & providing them an overall better living experience - it was possible to rent 6 or 7 bed villas for a reasonable amount & allocated members of each villa by their nationality so that each villa would house people more likely to get on with one another - we had 2 Indian villas, 1 pakistani, 1 Pilipino etc - Overall it worked well & when recruiting new staff it allowed us to bring in higher skilled employees because we were offering better living conditions - obviously it meant that when recruiting we had to be selective of the skills we were looking for & the nationality required that would fall into line where we had appropriate bed spaces - when we as the senior management group eventually moved on (as generally happens in overseas postings) newly recruited managers (non western) came in & the accommodation package was dismantled with everyone being moved back into the labour camps -

No, it's largely about Wis trying bend reality into a shape that fits into his whimsical view of things.
