The real problem up front is not the strikers but the feed. Ever since "we" decided to go with the inverted wingers the feed has dried up for the strikers. Start with the wingers in their (correct) positions and see if that works for a few games and if it doesn't then go back to the inverted wingers again. If it's working then the inverted wingers can switch during the game.

Didn’t bolasie and wilf swap sides during a game. Teams set up for wilf left and olise right. Swap it over in game and try getting the ball in early. Not hard to try it. Nothing else changes on the pitch.

I don’t disagree but doubt we’ll see e.g Olise on the left and Zaha on the right .
It’s almost as if football has been reinvented with right footed wingers having to play on the left and left footed players on the right.

Think,
Grealish and Mahrez
Martinelli and Saka
Mudryk and Ziyech
Jota and Salah
Mituma and March

How often do you see a winger going down the line and hitting an outswinging deep cross to the far post these days?
The overlapping full backs may do this, but not the wingers.
The wingers invariably cut infield and either shoot or play in swinging balls hoping to hit a forward or look for a deflection.
Some stat man has probably worked out that it’s more effective, but it certainly not that easy on the eye.

I've thought this for a while. They should be natural enough actual wingers, rather than inside forwards and there's no particular reason they couldn't swap during games. Except stubbornly sticking to tactics that aren't working at all. Or playing players where they want to play, which I bet doesn't wash with you or me. They can play where they're told to play and do a job or get dropped.

Its definitely of the time. Apart from City with Haarland, none of the teams you mentioned really have a proper CF. Now not saying that JPM is a proper forward, but if you put in 5/10 crosses a game, I'd fancy him to get on the end of a couple.

As much as it pains me to say it, its what killed Benteke. He was great in the first season, but we stopped crossing.

I am not suggesting that if Wilf goes left wing during the game he is pulled off just that if we use a CF then the inverted winger is used as a shock tactic. We have 3 CFs (including Ayew) why??

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

A lesson from Ian Holloway as he reflects on his pre-Palace Premier League season with Blackpool: “By the halfway point we had 28 points so I thought we can do this. But in the second half of the season we only got 11 points and were relegated. I then looked back on what we were doing, and I realised that other teams analysed what we did and by halfway through the season they understood how we played and nullified it. If I’d understood sooner we would have stayed up.”

Perhaps but just because I could work out Tyson Fury's tactics doesn't mean I could beat him, I'd just know what's coming.

That was the season when both Blackpool and Birmingham were relegated on 39 pts, Wolves were just above the relegation zone on 40 pts.

Most teams below us have games in hand. Look at the table - I didn't realise how bad it was until yesterday. Leicester have a game in hand and two points behind. West Ham have two games in hand. A win is needed.

The PL table does not make pleasant reading at all.

Should we be defeated tomorrow (God forbid) I will conclude that the chances of our survival will be somewhat slim.
Rest assured I shall be venting my spleen and shall be at my splenetic worst.

I hadn't been looking and it came up on Sky yesterday. I didn't know it was that dire. A loss is going to be unacceptable, as you point out. Leicester at least, but likely a few teams will leapfrog us.

I'd imagine in the run towards the end of season there will be a fair bit of leapfrogging with about 4 points separating 9 teams now, I think, can't be bothered to look. The less involved we are in that the happier I will be.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
