It was Kevin Doyle, the ex Wolves striker.
The Palace website has a feature on Palace Irish players to celebrate St Patrick's Day.
In truth only a few have made a significant contribution to the club.

Best I can think of is Jerry Murphy. Then probably Michael Hughes and Ray Houghton, I guess you could say Clinton but he doesn't seem that Irish.

Of the Irish players Delaney, for me, has made the most sustained contribution over the longest period.

Clintons grandmother was Irish , thats how he qualified to play for Ireland . He was also Clinton Chambers until he changed his name .

I wouldn't judge any player on the basis of one person's views of one game, especially at a club on their 3rd manager in less than 3 months, each of whom will no doubt have wanted him to play a different role etc.

I've been reading a lot of their comments as he had such a good loan at Shrewsbury.

They think he has good physicality but a poor footballing brain. On balance the comments are a bit negative but some have said he's not been playing in his best position.

I don't rule out that he can still do it. For some footballers, being played in the wrong position is a disaster.

In his short time there they have had three managers. Not the best thing for a loanee.

Yep. In a bit of turmoil. But that's football life. Sink or swim and no excuses. Gallagher would have been among the first names on the team sheet for any manager here because he was at a level above what we had.

Not Palace related but Terry Mancini qualified for Ireland through his grandmother. On his debut he turned to Don Givens and said

" **** me their anthem goes on a bit doesn't it?"
And got told
"That's ours".

Brilliant

I was listening to Steve Bruce on the radio this morning and apparently Jack Charlton asked him to play for Ireland because his mother was Irish, but Fergie told him not too because he would then become a foreigner and it could exclude him from any Man U European campaigns

Not too many Irish know the words to it , a lot just hit the high notes

Seo dhibh a cháirde duan Óglaigh,
Cathréimeach briomhar ceolmhar,
Ár dtinte cnámh go buacach táid,
'S an spéir go min réaltogach
Is fonnmhar faobhrach sinn chun gleo
