We are Crystal Palace. For years and years we were stalwarts of the third and fourth tiers, and second tier was respectable. Out stadium is a bit of a dump. Staying in the Prem, and slowly strengthening our infrastructure (training facilities, academy, stadium one day) are perfectly reasonable ambitions. Any season mid table in the Prem marks us as a better team than the Champions of the Championship...which is to date the highest real honour the club has ever achieved. After 56 years of going to Palace, I know the history ! I get your points, but earlier in the thread there was an exchange about the clubs ambitions and I was merely commenting on that.

It has to be the right decision with continuity crucial to keep our plan of bringing young players through, i hope Paddy can take over the reigns if he is up to it, particularly with his knowledge of the young players who are our future.

It seems to me that recruitment of players is vital to success for clubs of our size. Look at how well our so called biggest rivals have done this season by finding unknown gems to replace good players they have sold on.

The guy has zero experience. and may be back in the U21's the moment a new coach comes in. Plus, he might know the U21's but how many of them are going to play first team. Maybe 1? So it's not really anything to get excited about.

Interesting clickbait article in London World. Most of it is the usual guesswork but the final paragraph is interesting:- "Whoever the board and Parish decided on will go a long way in showing the ambition of the club, one thing is certain though, it will be a crucial summer in south London."

Edited by Willo (16 May 2023 8.20am) Yes it's only clickbait from unreliable sources, but if it did happen, personally I'd be delighted. There might even be a succession plan in place? After Roy steps down after next season, Paddy McArthy could step up? Pure speculation of course...

Unlike FdB and PV Slot has had more success ad experience AND unli8ke the above he is highly regarded i coaching circles, where-as (it could be argued)FdB and PV relied on their names.

This would not be good news in my opinion. Roy has too many faults among which is a poor record on training injuries, inability to motivate forwards to score and wingers to cross the ball (both Eze and Olise were midfielders at their former clubs), preferring older players with former EPL experience to young up and coming talent, poor record against top six teams etc etc. During his last tenure as Manager he had five runs of poor results. If replicated I am not sure the fans or SP would give him the leeway to try and improve results. Hopefully this is just click bait.

I think he has atoned himself for the way it ended the last time he was here & he should walk away with the W. He wont though, he loves the game too much.
