To de-platform a speaker or to cancel anybody is a Fascist act. like the Nazi's burning the books they didnt like.

Depends what books. Very interesting history behind the (in)famous photo's of the Nazi book burning narrative.

Woke is probably here to stay. As, increasingly will be, the hard right.

cos each begets the other. They engender each other. And they feed each other.

No Woke ? no Anders Breivik.

the Spanish Civil War happened cos the only alternatives were the hard left or the hard right.

having lost the middle-ground, then they lost the country.

What is surely interesting, is where Woke came from ? Who empowers it and who pays for it.

Cos, here in Ireland it is at EVERY level from top government down to the poorest pauper. And has now pervaded and polluted all institutions- even Gaelic Sports and irish language bodies. Much to the horror of the average tom, dick, or Mary.

Ok clever cogs ‘ is the cancelling of opinions the minority don’t want to hear; that are perfectly acceptable to the majority finally beginning to happen, for the good’.
Is that one you can actually answer without spinning it again !

Simple to answer.

No one should have their opinions stifled unless it's unlawful to state them publically.

However, no organisation should be forced to accept a speaker to address its members. Who they choose is a matter for them alone and so is their right to change their mind.

Additionally, if the police have concerns about the safety of any event they must be able to order its cancellation.

Whilst no one should be stopped from expressing themselves, no one should be forced to listen either.

what about one idiot seeking to de-rail a sensible adult discussion in a theatre ? like a 3 year old, throwing their toys out of the pram

Is unarguably unacceptable. They should be removed and possibly charged. Everyone has a right to protest but not a right to disturb the rights of others.

I have just listened to "The Moral Maze" on Radio 4 which dealt with "Cancel Culture". I am sure it can be found on BBC Sounds. Many points of view aired from several political viewpoints.

Anyone who thinks that this garbage is dying is living in an alternate universe, If anything it's actually becoming more prevalent.
June isn't here for another 24 hours & we're already being bombarded with Gay Pride Month (remember when it was just a weekend?)
I don't particularly have an issue with it per se in fact I actually do pretty well out of it financially. What sticks in my craw is the constant bombardment of propaganda that goes with it & if you actually have any opposing thoughts about it then you are immediately ostracised & cancelled one case that springs to mind is the Toronto Jays Pitcher. You could tell in his apology video that he had been told in know uncertain terms to tow the line he actually looked to me like an ISIS Hostage telling friends & family that he was ok when he patently wasn;t

Being required to listen to something outside of that which their course demands.

Universities must be free to decide who they invite to speak to their students and speakers should regard invitations as a privilege and not as a right. Students must be free to decide if they want to listen, and if they want to protest.

A wise uni will allow diverse opinions to be expressed and wise students will listen to them all. Only then can informed judgements be reached. Intimidation from anyone about anything is abhorrent and it's this, via social media that has become so abhorrent.
