I expect him to be right up there this season - unfortunately. I'm guessing 25-30 goals.

Last season in the premier Nunez scored 9, while Edouard 5.
The way Edouard took that free kick on saturday at Brentford coupled with his overall play so far this season gives me hope if he starts games that he could be on to double that number. That's before we consider what Franca may do. And then there is Gordon quietly waiting on the bench our junior striker with serious skills.
And of course there is our very underrated super star Jordan Ayew. Put him back in the middle up front and he would probably be a double figure scorer the way he is playing right now..

There have been plenty of top players who have taken a while to adapt to the PL. Ask yourself two questions: 1) would you have expected any of our strikers to bury those two chances? 2) would you have Nunez in your team?

Thats what £80m gets you, but he hasnt been that prolific since he joined Liverpool. Every other game, thats a 20 goal a season player, even Nunez at £80m isnt that, you appear to wish for the impossible.

If that’s what £80m gets you, then I’d swap Doucoure and £10m for Nunez in a heartbeat, but it’s almost like Palace aren’t allowed to have a player that is that good.

Given the values being espoused for Guehi, Andersen, Doucoure, Eze and Olise, I don’t think wishing for a top striker is asking for the impossible. You just have to decide which positions to prioritise.

I tend to agree largely, but clearly to put Ayew in the middle we need at least one more decent wide player. I'm wondering if we sign someone like Adams then can they play across all three front positions, like Ayew can? That would be incredibly useful for us over the season. Franca and Olise coming back will certainly help but, even then, I feel we need one more.
I've commented the same on Edouard for a while now. He seems very technical - his free kick seemed to show that. I just don't think he busts a gut to get forward enough and be on the end of things. I've lost count of the balls across the face of goal that no one is anywhere near, but other teams would score. He takes one touch too many - and that allows defenders back.
Overall, our approach work is slow, allowing teams to get men behind the ball. That's where we've needed the individual skill of Olise or Zaha, perhaps Eze, to beat someone and put in the perfect ball or take it on themselves. Zaha - enough said. However, it's pretty damning to let him go and not have any replacement. We were short up top even when we had him. One injury and so many times, we went to sh1t. We're perhaps less reliant now but we won't be scoring hatfuls with our current players and tactics. One Pacey winger or striker would drastically improve us. They don't need to be the best ever - just half decent, fast and willing to take the ball up field.

Yes, agreed, provided one of them can put it in the net. Liverpool yesterday was a great example of what a finisher can do. Nunez had two half chances and took them both. If that had been Ayew or Edouard or Mateta then it would have been bouncing off the pukka pies sign or being caught by fans in the upper holmesdale (pukka pies an elderly reference but I think you get my drift).

I appreciate we can’t afford a Nunez but I’m sure there is an out and out finisher out there that we can afford. We’ve got enough hard working triers so I’d gladly take a less dynamic player who knocks in a goal every other game.

He had a similar impact on his debut with his 2 goals in the blink of an eye. As the saying goes - one swallow doesn't make...

Nunez may or may not become a prolific scorer in the PL It helps, of course if you have the quality of players around you as he has.

We’re never gonna be able to afford a 20+ goal striker off the shelve, nor would one want to join a mid table team like us.

All we can hope for is shrewd scouting/a successful gamble from overseas or lower devisions and hopefully sign the next Michu/Pellè. Brighton are good at it but it’s not easy. Perhaps Franca is that man?

The trouble is that for every Michu, there are 10 Sorloth’s.

I thought Edouard was dire against Brentford. Any upgrade on him is a good thing. In my opinion both Che Adams and Iheanacho are.

A great word!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

It is a reasonable price, and whilst I rate him I don't know if he's much better than what we have. One benefit though is that he could play anywhere across the front 3.

His all round play is clearly better than what both our strikers serve up, not prolific but could improve us in terms of ball retention and hold up play.

I fear even 6M is over our budget.
