Talk about supply & demand / market forces -

Quite bizarre considering they thought Bellingham was too expensive.

They've lost a fair few players there but I am guessing the only likelihood of this is if L'pool have quietly decided Jones is not their future and/or if Jones himself wants to be a more prominent player, playing regularly, preferably in the PL, than wait around while L'pool spend 3 figure millions on players in his position.

I like what I've seen of him but would be wary of the transition of a player from a bit part at a massive club to regular starter at one like ours.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Maybe after the Bellingham experience in the cold light of day they did some soul searching & wondered how it looked being outbid for such a talent, then when another opportunity came along they didn't want the mornings headlines to be once again questioning their ability to compete in transfer dealings or their ambition.

You can dislike Brighton while acknowledging they are probably the shrewdest operators in the league.
Once Rice went for in excess of £100 million that was the benchmark Brighton used for Caceido, regardless of whether he's as good as Rice or not.
They took over £60 million from Chelsea for the average Cucerella.
The original buy low/sell high merchants.
They've bought well this window too.

The last two seasons has seen Brighton , almost certainly assure their future at this level. Not far short of a £250. Mill cash injection in player sales ,incredible or what?

It’s clearer now why this story might hold water and he would be a decent add on to the squad, some would argue ,other positions are more urgent. The biggest problem as ever is revealed in the tweet. Palace haven’t made up their mind .

Will be a good signing as long as we do not pay an inflated price that Liverpool would want to cover there new signings .
Remember how much over the top we paid for Big Ben .

Yeah I can or perhaps do buy that DE.

One passed them by so perhaps they didn’t want a repeat? Also with the loss of the likes of Fabinho and Henderson going they identified this as a ‘must’ where Bellingham may have previously been more of a ‘want’? Just speculating of course.

Agree. I reckon the Fab and Hendo money helped bridge the gap. Got over 50m for 2 players on their way out.

Sky are reporting that he's unsure about going to L'pool, bbc saying the same thing. Curtis Jones might do well to stay put.

Would much prefer to Sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea which I still believe we would do.

Playing in a top team can make some average players look good. Liverpool struggled at times in midfield last season and I question whether Jones performed well enough to step up. Having said that, I don't think Jones is a bad player and he could be useful to us as long as we don't overpay. The problem, of course is that with the Rice and Caicedo silly monies, I can see Liverpool wanting a silly sum for Jones.

Palace Passion is advocating we go for Gallagher instead. He showed (for half a season at least) that he could perform in an average team like us.

Having said all that, I don't believe Gallagher would want to come to Palace and I'm not sure I want him - at least not whilst Eze is here as I'm not sure the midfield would work with those 2 and Doucoure.

They don't seem an obvious fit and Eze and Gallagher only started 5 or 6 games together but we didn't lose any of them
