My fault I don't want to turn this into another immigration thread.

My original post is about how rubbish we are at collecting and collating data that is vital to planning and running the country.

Technology has moved on so this stuff should be seamless to business and public bodies. On a daily basis the government should be able to know the ins and outs for import exports, how many people are on the payroll, what the public is spending money on and how much etc. etc.

This might sound like big brother but they have been doing this for decades (badly).

The Spanish Train bomb terrorist all had valid id cards. As I said above most people can prove their identity if required. The criminal and the illegal would never carry id anyway (it's kinda the point).

So what is the benefit of a copper forcing me to produce id when I already have a Driving Licence, credit cards on the Electoral roll , credit reports etc.

The only reason I can see is if they link government benefits to a national id card. Currently there are millions of dodgy National Insurance numbers either having been issued based on fraudulent documents, not cancelled due to death or simple incompetence. I shared the same NI number with another individual due to a clerical cock up.

Now as long as the ID scheme worked properly you could then eliminate all the dodgy NI numbers.

Anyway it aint going to happen and as another poster suggested the politicians may not want to know what the real stats are as I suspect the voters would be less than impressed.

Indeed.

All the positives of an ID card could and would be possible by other means if the the political will was there to achieve them.

It's always been an excuse for what they really want....Once given that power won't be coming back.

Some data will be used. Then manipulated by statistics to make a case for something.
Other data will fall by the wayside and be discarded, because it's uncomfortable reading.

The info below from the same nation that outlawed DNA paternity tests ( for the sake of preserving peaceful family-life )....

And if one group of society is massively productive and hardworking. And another group is lazy, unproductive and parasites off the former.. Quel Dommage

Cucks

Interesting, I didn't know that the French state does not collect racial data.

It is, and I didn’t know either.

I can see why though and is something I believe we need to adopt asap. It’s what I have long argued for.

We need to get away from categorising people in ways they have no control over and start categorising them in ways they have.

Criminals are criminals. They aren’t black, white, Muslim or Christian criminals. Good people are just good people. Why attach labels that then stick to others?

There are plenty of ways to collect the data without resorting to meaningless labelling.

It makes my buttocks wince whenever I read here, or anywhere else, people described by their skin colour. If someone carries a knife, robs a bank or molests a child what does it matter if they are black, white, brown or pink? It only matters that they need to be caught. Describing people as “White Europeans” is especially offensive given the number who aren’t but have been born in Europe and have as much right to be there as all the others.

Giving people an excuse by claiming society is prejudiced against them needs to be eradicated by not being prejudiced. Criminals need calling out as criminals, nothing else.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Interesting. It would automatically remove racist attacks and racism from society. What is Dianne Abbot going to use as an excuse for complaining about something?

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

on the one hand, yes...i agree with you. On the other, tons of data will help to get effective Government spending and govt policy.
health, education, transport , whatever.

you need an intimate knowledge of your populace....age, gender, ethnicity, shoe size, whatever.

there is no point helping white people to conquer sickle cell anaemia. And its maybe futile trying to lecture them on the horrors of arranged cousin-marriage. Policy needs to be targeted.

only lefties see the whole population as vanilla flavour. Then they give tampons to men.

Good Government Statistics help us to understand the World we live in. In all its hidden complexity. They shed light on darkness and must not be suppressed for political reasons. If there is a hidden problem of, say, female baby infanticide...in China, India..... the data are needed to prove it. And they do.

Did anyone else notice the BOE's gloomy inflation forecast which meant they decided to maintain interest rates as is (14 Dec).

Followed days later by a unexpected large fall in inflation (20 Dec) which suggests that the BOE should be cutting rates.

This is what I am talking about folks poor data leads to poor decision making.

What will the BOE do in January.
