I think we are quite an attractive option for KP.
He would be guaranteed a starting place for us - as we have nobody of his quality. He would be getting regular football, put in back into Southgate’s plans…plus..we are a lovely club and would make him feel welcome.

We are smaller players than Newcastle and West Ham and Newcastle are geographically closer to his upbringing.

However, he will have seen Newcastle gazumping us on Lewis Hall and that player barely getting a game.

We have only 2 advantages over those 2 clubs.

The first is that we may be the only serious contender (?).

Otherwise, it's game time. He and Lerma will get every game till May.

So, the decision is whether money talks, or whether he will be swayed by the likelihood of getting his game time in advance of the Euros. Gallagher's elevation from Chelsea fringe to England regular after a season with us cannot have escaped his notice. And given his relative youth, he may be happy with that bargain bin arrangement if it is only for half a season.

Good summary ST.

Perhaps optimistically, I am inclined to believe that him following the money/big names would reflect his footballing ambitions just as much as if he were to choose to come to us, knowing game time is near guaranteed.

I've not been his biggest fan at City but more importantly England, however I think he could well do a very good job for us in Doucoure's absence whilst simultaneously resurrecting his own career.

If it works out, he will be playing for his England future and regularly within a very drilled Hodgson side, he seemed to favour and relish the drilled Bielsa approach too. Therefore if it does pan out as such, I certainly will not be inclined to complain at all.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The key attractions of Philips are that he excelled in a deep lying role at Leeds, is organised and disciplined and has a great passing range. He is what our midfield has been missing. He was crucial to Leeds and I don't think it was a coincidence that they got relegated after he left. For me the only issue is the cost. Take that out of the equation and I don't see how this would not be a great signing for us?

I think for him the important decision HAS to be gametime. With JWP, Alverez and Soucek, WH have a pretty stable CM. Newcastle have some injury issues, but those players will come back.

For City as well as the above:
WH may be a bit too close in the table to be doing them favours
Newcastle are limitlessly wealthy, cant imaging City wanting to waive the loan fee to help them

Its why we are the best choice. He'll get loads of game time. We are zero threat, and genuinely poor!

He does certainly fit the profile of what we need today but his limited City performances over 2 years have been poor. Pep rarely gives up on his players but seems to have thrown the white flag now. It’s only a loan (buying price like Conor will escalate the better he does over the 4 months with us) and most importantly he will probably stunt the progression of David Ozoh who’s value to Palace will only skyrocket with a good half a season!

I won’t be unhappy with the signing but it will only protract a disjointed year and give the new manager more questions than answers with his 2024-2025 squad selection!

Ozoh will likely continue to make cameos from the bench whether Philips signs or not. The other factor is the only reason we're looking at this deal is because Doucoure is out. He should be back next season so this really is a stop gap. If the deal is right it could benefit all parties with City the only ones probably keen for a permanent deal with both KP and Palace probably only looking to address short-term agendas.

All points made are very valid but I’m not sure we will get the player upgrade we are hoping for! I have only seen cameos from KP over the past 2 years and like Pep haven’t been overly impressed by his contribution in the world’s best team!

I believe we will acquire the necessary points to stay in the PL, Lerma playing with good energy and Ozoh’s development a priority so the money can be spent in other critical areas!

As said not overly unhappy whichever way this ends up!

Obviously it’s still really unlikely, but, according to some reports;

‘Claims that City want a hefty loan fee and an obligation to buy as part of the deal have been rubbished, with it reported that “City are open to a deal structure to suit all parties”. Phillips just wants game time.‘ (Guardian)

If the aim is to keep his place in the England squad then it probably makes sense for him to stay in England. The one thing that Palace can pretty much guarantee is game time and it’ll be good for Ozoh to shadow someone like him.

I understand people's reservations given his lack of game time with City, but he has never been given time to settle with them and when he has come in he's been under immense pressure to immediately perform with the shadow of probably the world's best defensive midfielder (Rodri) being cast over him. If he joined he'll almost certainly play most games if he's fit enough and I think he'd show his class. I'm excited by Ozoh but he's still a kid.

Unfortunately Southgate doesn’t seem to worry to much about game time

He will definitely be fit enough. Bielsa Leeds followed by Guardiola City

To be fair Pep has been pretty complimentary of him. Particularly his attitude and commitment. He's just not a City type player. He's an 'out of possession player'
