Southgate seems to like picking players from Palace. Maybe he has a sentimental streak in him and remembers it was Palace that started it all for him.

If Philipps has an eye on England then I agree Palace would be an excellent destination particularly if he can form good understandings with Guehi and Eze who will also make squad/team.

I’m coming round to the idea.

Palace being linked with a player Newcastle and Juventus can't afford? Strange things are afoot.

I seem to remember Juventus being quoted 7 million + having to pay his wages which is why they passed. Newcastle are under FFP pressure. Unless it is pure obstinacy on City's part they are in a weak position. Pep isn't going to play him, he will want to leave and his sale value might rise if he plays regularly

At least Hodgson would choose him as it ups the chances of more 0-0 results. If the total is 5 million and he raises our league position by 2 spots it's worth it

I think I said earlier in the thread that paying £5m for half a season of Phillips would be mad. Or if I didn't, I meant to.

Either way I've changed my mind. Keeping in mind that each position in the PL is worth a reported £2.2m, is Phillips worth 2 extra positions for us? I reckon he probably would be, think he'd suit us absolutely perfectly.

If he keeps us up he's worth £5m about 20 times over.

someone needs to get their crystal ball out for this one, 2 spots, say the difference between 14th & 16th and at 2.2 M per league position almost covers the 5 million but leaves us in the hole for his weekly salary, on the other hand if he was the difference between staying in the league & relegation financially its flipping huge (especially as work on the new main stand is allegedly being commenced at the end of this one)

He isn't that good is he . Can't get a sniff of a game at city with Pep preferring to blood kids when he is short staffed .They only signed him to increase their English players and cover for Rodri who they are having to play in every game because Phillips is so poor
Had England had any another manager but Southgate he wouldn't be anywhere near an England cap , he is Southgates Calton Palmer .

£5M loan fee ,they are having a laugh , just paying all his wages would be a stretch .He is a basic defensive midfielder that should go back to Leeds on a free , its about his level .

And we still need a striker

Not being good enough for City and not being good enough for us are worlds apart. Taking the money out of the equation I think Philips would be an excellent signing if he played like he did before his City move. Nonetheless, it would probably need City to agree to a more modest fee and that would then likely bring Newcastle and Juve (among others) back into play. The only way he comes to us is if Parish felt it made sense to spend over £7 million on a stop gap. That seems unlikely.

I think initially he is not going to be the same player we remember when he was at his best (if he was he would be getting game time at City) Part of the discussion will need to be
a) is he ever going to get back to that level (possibly due to injury etc)
b) if he can get back to his best how long will this take? If it is just down to lack of game time then the risk i think will be worth it.
He is in my opinion a perfect replacement for Doucoure. He reads the game so well and is very comfortable on the ball.

He is miles away from the player he was a Leeds . We wouldn't be getting that player.
