This seems one of the more realistic rumours. I could see a situation where West Ham sign Ekitike (or someone else) and Ings comes to us on loan. I always liked him as he has Murray vibes about him, but it's hard to get a handle on where he's at these days as he doesn't play so much. Going out on a whim, if we did sign him I have a feeling he might do quite well as a short-term option. Having said that, if JPM keeps up his current form he will be bloody hard to displace (but the transfer window does shut in a few weeks!!)

Too old, too many injuries, not mobile enough. A few years ago he would have been a good signing but I could see him signing, starting, injured and not seen again until the summer.

Surely we can get a better striker than an injury prone Danny Ings??

Is there a competition where posters try to think of a player WORSE than the ones we already have?

I thought Ings would be a great signing for us , about 8 years ago .Search these boards and he will appear at regular intervals as a possible , he might have even turned us down when he signed for Southampton ?

He was a decent player but how many PL sides does he get into these days ? His best days were in a two up top with Burnley and soon made the bench his best position at a succession of clubs after . Seems to be on first name terms with the physio wherever he has been and at 31 he's not the future .

A loan till the end of the season might work out (I can maybe see a bit of Kevin Phillips in him ) but I can't see much joy past that .

And we still need a striker

From what I can see he's been injury free for two years and hasn't missed any considerable game time in the last five years. [Link]

Like I said, he hasn't been playing much so it's hard to assess if he still has it, but a lot of people had written Murray off as too slow and past it and then he had an Indian Summer. He was always a great finisher and worked hard. Like I said, a short-term loan would at least add some depth to the squad. Like most I'd rather we signed a top-quality younger forward, but at least if we are going short term Ings is a seasoned pro who Roy might actually use.

He would certainly add some cunning and guile up top.

Something we don't currently have.

I can understand why people aren't keen but it would be a cautious '' yes '' from me if the deal made sense financially.

I would have been excited at this prospect 3 or 4 years ago. Now I feel lukewarm about it,

Only 2 goals for W.Ham in 26 PL appearances.
Mr Hodgson gave him his England debut.

Ings is a natural striker and instinctive finisher.
We’ve been on the receiving end 5 times against him.
He’s a loan signing I’m convinced Roy would use.
The problem I foresee is that we don’t create much for strikers and I’m not convinced by him as a lone front man (a system we tend to play).
If it’s him, an unproven player or nothing, I would take him.
At least he’s proved he can score at top level.
