I walked round pissed off my head at about two in the morning with my mate singing Palace songs a couple of years ago. The locals seemed to really enjoy it and were clapping us. I guess they don't see that kind of thing often: it was exotic to them.

My friend and I were attacked by a gang of youngish people in O'Connell Street recently enough. We intervened when they were robbing some tourists. My mate got a bit of a black eye but I got a couple of them good. They weren't expecting that. Stupid, scum bag c***s.

I don't live in Croydon or know it well. However when flying back from abroad I often get the Gatwick train to East Croydon and then the tram home. The area around East Croydon station on a Friday or Saturday night can be quite scary. Lots of very odd people of all denominations I am glad when the tram comes.

The most worrying I see are the clearly mentally ill, homeless people. I stay right there at the Premier Inn on matchdays and I see what you're talking about. The subway across the main Rd - which is next to the tram stop I presume you're talking about - should be avoided. Mainly due to it smelling of piss, but it can be intimidating to see the community down there if you're not expecting it. However, I've never felt particularly threatened if I tell the truth. No doubt, it would be different if I were a single woman or a child or something. It must be scary for them. Edited by ASCPFC (01 Mar 2024 4.06pm)
