Rangers will let Jack go for £15 million. Great transfer work by the Dougster. If only we had played him instead of Guita Butland wasn't as good as VG and i can't remember anyone claiming otherwise during his 2 1/2 years at the club. Had a few good games (Brighton away he was excellent), but others such as Millwall and Everton he looked nervous. Is a decent goalie, but at 31 he's either at his peak or is just past it. If he's valued at £15m then Sam must be worth at least £20m.

I still don't understand the Goalkeeping Situation, I would loan out Henderson for the whole season next year, even if we have to subsidies his wages, and loan in an obvious number two keeper, Henderson needs to be playing, but not in our team, yet.

I'd immediately try and recoup the money we ludicrously wasted on him, get a decent free agent in to stand as back up to Johnstone (other teams seem to always manage to do this) and then maybe look to have an academy player or purchase a young prospect to fill the third spot. I'd then spend any money we do have on a LWB, LW and maybe a striker. That's just me though

VG had a number of horror games. Long term we would have been better with Butts. Sam was a bargain but Henderson was overpriced on fee and wages.

Over the years I've always thought a good goalie in almost any league is basically transferrable: the role doesn't change that much, although the sweeper/ball playing keepers are in vogue currently.

[Link] That's the other factor with buying Henderson, Sam's fitness record. This is now the 4th or 5th injury Sam has picked up in less than 2 years at the club. Clearly this was a concern behind the scenes

I saw the whole game of div2, Mansfield v Colchester 1-1. Owen Goodman was fantastic, I do hope that the team managment rates him.With a few improvements( goal kicks in field-he has a very strong shot), he could be useful next season in my opinion.

"Competition for every position on the field" means two keepers who each could as well be first choice as the other. Hendrson's poor performances in the last couple of games he played rather obscured this point but he probably is better than those games suggested. You can't rely on academy products for reserve goalkeepers; youg players need to be playimng first team football. Arguably we were lucky in how well Whitworth coped last season.

It was felt that against physical teams that get on top of him he could be put under severe pressure. Edited by Willo (25 Mar 2024 12.14pm)
