Not from the left but the soloution is incredibly simple: Build. More. Houses.

Only the nice friendly left. Others on the left think the best solution would be taking spare housing back. And only some of those think compensation should be paid....

Yet the right hate market interference and stopping immigration is market interference.

Lots of contradictions on both sides.

That's based on their assumed adherence to capitalism, although that particular aspect is slightly more tenuous than say the left's desire to look after everyone else which is what we're doing in sharing our funds, services, and resources with p1ss-poor nations.

That's the biggest contradiction in the support for Thatcher's cheap labour project.

Migrants claiming benefits are those who have legally earned them. You have to work in the UK for 5 years before you become fully entitled to benefits (which is essentially the point at which you would be considered automatic eligible for UK citizenship).

People like to blame migrants, because what they can't do is blame the political parties they vote for, who represent corporate interests above their own (or in many cases would be partially responsible for the promotion of, or implementation of those interests).

Its a faux 'racism' argument, popularised by certain right wing political agendas*, because it absolves them of the responsibility for dealing with a major issue. Either in terms of controlling the flow of migration, or raising taxation on the increased corporate profits to compensate society.

Basically, if you voted Labour or Conservative from the 80s onwards, this is what you actually voted for (in fact its kind of been going on, albeit on a lesser more controlled manner, since the post war boom).

* I use right wing political agendas, because we haven't had a left wing government since 1979.

Is that not a relatively recent restriction, along with the other few consolation prizes for Dave getting fcuk all else from his negotiations this year?

I doubt anyone will be sent home. More likely there will be a cut-off point, prior to which we'll see a massive surge.

Migrants on benefits are a easy target as with foreign criminals. Of course we have more of our own, but in hindsight obviously people are going to point out that they simply could've been kept out.

Yes. My knowledge in the area isn't too strong but I always wonder why supply in this market is so unreactive to demand.

Possibly issues with planning permission. Also the fact that many properties built are for the elites of society not normal people.

but the solution is actually more simpler than that.

Stop. People. Coming. Here

Lots of people coming to London epsecially are from other parts of this country. E.g. graduates for grad roles, or artists, actors etc.

The whole economy is so London centric and there arent enough opportunities in the rest of the country.

This is part of the housing equation.

To blame immigrants is missing a large portion of the point.

I don't appreciate northerners overrunning the place either but sadly there's no border at the Watford Gap.

Still Dave could've at least maintained the illusion of interest in a Northern Powerhouse to mitigate such concerns.

It was applicable to my wife in 2001. Some benefits become available from three years, and by five years you have full claim. Its slightly different I think for the EU I think, with 3 years being the bench mark.

Obviously some indirect benefits are applicable - access to the NHS for example.

It can be a bit complicated by relationships as well. Because if a British citizen has a child with a migrant, and that child is registered as a British Citizen, then they could claim child benefit (as that is for the child, not the parent) and so on.

Also it depends on your status, obviously, if my wife married in 2001, she'd be entitled to apply for British Nationality and would become a citizen through that avenue.

The exception is Asylum Applicants, who are entitled to benefits upon application, this though is because they are not allowed to work until their status is determined (following a campaign complaining about asylum applicants taking jobs in the 90s).

They built 500,000 council houses in a couple of years back in the 50's. The will was there to do it by our elected leaders back then. Not so much now. Housing has become too much of a market place. Pretty rotten way of doing things and yet again we have the Tories to thank from their Housing Acts back in the 80's.

£17bn a year is what mass immigration is estimated to cost this country a year. £17bn to see our public services creak under the strain.
£17bn a year to see an increase in crime, and yes immigration does contribute to this as we see an increase in such crimes as street robbery, people trafficking, identity fraud etc.
Nice to know that successive Tory and Labour governments reckless and irresponsible approach to this subject is costing us so much. When the national debt is increasing year by year this is £17bn we can ill afford.
The open border policy has been nothing short of disasterous and has seen the demographics of towns and cities change beyond recognition. It's time to end this absolute madness by taking control of our own borders.
Who ever voted for this craven stupidity???

Blame Blair for going in with Bush and starting the whole cycle of violence and war in the Middle East that has led to the massive increase in refugees seeking shelter in Europe.

The problem is that not enough people joined us in saying the war in Iraq would lead to disaster. People need to wake up and get active and hold our politicians to account.

Why is Blair not locked up for what he did? Maybe the Chilcott enquiry will get things moving?

OP should be ashamed of himself.

Disgusting to blame the problems in society on immigrants who by and large come here to work hard and get on.

fed up eagle has the reasoning and logical skills of a 6 year old if he can't contextualise what he reads and look at the source. Actually come to say that year 2 SATS are quite difficult these days....

If you really think immigrants are the cause of the problems in this country, I feel quite sorry for you.

Another deluded fool who clearly doesn't live in the real world. Sorry but I don't feel ashamed, at all.

Channel your anger at the right people.

F U E could really do with reading more books rather than ranting on here about a completely bogus "paper", Angelina Jolie, or describing anyone who voted for Sidiq Khan "can further deny their British heritage as they loath everything that Britain stands for, cnuts".

I am the proud Grandson of 4 European immigrants who mostly came here with nothing. My grandad first went to Palace in the 50s, took my dad and my dad took me after all. If only that, I have immigration to thank for the joys of Crystal palace. I would not find myself on this thread without it.

So people who don't share your world view are ill educated and need to read more books? What an ignorant, pompous @rse you are.
It's the typical 'I'm superior to you' b0ll0cks that I would expect from a deluded left wing prat.

Indeed the Hyperbole king F.U.E. full of piss, hot air & nowt else. (And this coming from someone on the Right) other posters have hit the nail on the head. Its not so much the immigrants per se who cause the Issues, Its those feckless, feral scumbags who think it beneath them to pick fruit & Veg or Dig trenches or serve your Fried Chicken who are nearly all to blame. Personally I'd like to see a system brought in where if one of these wasters turn down three nailed on job opportunities they have their benefits stopped with immediate effect. Maybe it would shake up some of these people to get off their backsides & find proper employment. The problem with a lot of these c***s is that they have bought in to the Reality TV scenario where a lot of them think that they are going to be the next BIG thing.........

Well coming from someone whose full of 5hit I'll ignore that comment.
