I once saw Claude Davis play a full game without being booked.

Other historic events I can think of, as well as those mentioned above, in my lifetime ( I was born in 1950)include:
The chemical structure of DNA discovered.
The opening of the first nuclear power station.
The end of steam powered trains on the BR network.
Colour TV in the home.
The first ever recorded four minute mile.
The first motorway opened.
The coronation of the Queen.
The death of Einstein.
The introduction of the national speed limit on UK roads.
The first UK referendum.

Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link]

Iranian Embassy siege, 1980.
Assassination of John Lennon, 1980.
Attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan, 1981.
Attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II, 1981.
Attempted assassination of Margaret Thatcher in the Brighton bombings, 1984.
Explosion of the NASA Space Shuttle Challenger, 1986.
Chernobyl disaster, 1986.
Release from prison of Nelson Mandela, 1990.

While they all occurred in my lifetime, the Challenger explosion was maybe the first significant event I can really remember.

The coronation of the Queen.

I used to live in Worcester Park and often went to school in Kingston by train and used to love standing on the platform at Raynes Park or Wimbledon watching the steam trains thundering past.

I had just started primary school when the queen was coronated (new word) and we were all given a commemorative silver tea spoon and mine still has pride of place on my sideboard

No-one mentioned England winning the world cup.

Within my lifetime there has been:

Neil Armstrong setting foot on the moon - I just about remember that as I was only 5.

The three day week. Rubbish in the streets, power cuts etc.

Elvis Presley dying. My mum bawled her eyes out.

The Falklands.

Hillsborough, Heysel, Bradford.

The Yorkshire Ripper.

The Berlin Wall coming down.

Diana's death and the faux mourning the country went into.

9/11 - all in glorious live colour.

I've probably missed out loads. Anyone else have memories of major events in their lifetime ?

I was born in August '77 so off your list it's the death of Elvis downwards. Not that I remember Elvis dying or the Falklands. I do remember coming home from school and watching the Challenger explode on live tv.

You're a year older than me so pretty much the same as you. I remember the moon landing quite vividly but obviously didn't understand the significance.

Even though things had been changing, the fall of the Berlin Wall was a real wow moment.

John Lennon being shot

the dignified don't even enter in the game

Being of the *ahem* older generation on here, I cover all of the above plus......

-King George's funeral
-the Queen's coronation
-the end of food rationing
-the invention of man-made fibres for general use
-the invention of the pocket calculator
-the first mobile phones (housebricks!)
- a 'wireless' as opposed to wired up radio that was housed in a great wooden cabinet
-the radiogram (that thing with a radio and record player that took up half the living room)
-electric typewriters, followed by the first word processors then computers
-cordless telephones
-Winston Churchill's funeral
- the rise of Merseybeat
-the 'Hostess trolley'
-free visits from your GP
-the closure of the Daily Herald - such a good size for cutting up for toilet paper after reading!

plus probably a lot more that I can't remember

Scores i can remember but the ones that stand out in chronological order..

The Munich Olympics Massacre
Entebbe
Punk
Yorkshire Ripper
Farrah Fawcett Majors/Charlies Angels
Burnley 1979
Lennon
Moscow Olympics boycott
Ovett/Coe/Cram
Thatcher
Brixton and other place riots 1981
Falklands
Miners strike
Live Aid

Growing up with the very real threat of nuclear war over most of those years...

then disaster after disaster 1985-89

Piper Alpha/Kings Cross/Zeebrugge/Heysel/Clapham Junction/Stock Aitken and Waterman/Lockerbie/Kegworth/Marchioness/Bradford/Manchester runway plane fire

Berlin wall being pummelled. Probably the biggest event out of any.

Then onto 1990 and England at the World Cup and also Thatcher getting the boot from her own lot. Lovely.

One of the most important memories in my lifetime was the introduction of soft toilet paper

I must admit that I was one of those in mourning for the untimely passing of Diana Dors
