Which is why we need an enquiry! Thirty years after the event. Why? What good will it do anyone?

My old man was a copper in the Met and was in the miners strikes. He was posted to Derbyshire. One thing that isn't highlighted and never has been in the press is that everyday the coppers used to be given a snack bag which would contain a sandwich, crisps, apple, mars bar and water. My old man and hundreds of other coppers used to tip all of their snacks into a bin liner and go without food all day. Then under the cover of darkness two of the coppers used to go to the back door of the local miners club and hand over all there snacks to the women who ran the bar so they could be given out to all the miners kids. I'm not trying to say the old bill were perfect during the strikes because they weren't. But little things like this showed that some of them did have some compassion. This story would not of been newsworthy though as it might paint the old bill in a good light!!
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

On the other hand, a constable I met at a drinks party months later told me with great delight how they used to wave ten pound notes in the pickets' faces to show how much they were earning in overtime, while the miners' families were struggling. Ugh!!

All those asking for an inquiry, as per Hoof's point, why didn't Labour hold one during the 13 years it was in power?

And for those of you saying that the strikers weren't bent on violence, but were protecting their jobs, remember this tragedy:

Well, thanks for that. But what good will that do anyone? It just confirms Cuckers that the 'right ons' couldn't care less about the subjects of the drama, it is all about politics and the attempt to reposition power. What the f*** would a middle class hanger on from comfy surburbia know about the Miners Strike 30 plus years after it ended? f*** all, that's what. But he has a nice Miners Strike retro badge set he wears on his 'vintage' military jacket and this blatant virtue signalling says in his mind, and the clique of bellends he associates with, that he suffers as those in mining towns suffered all those years ago.

Its worth mentioning that South Yorkshire Police support a public enquiry and Ms Rudds reverence for Mrs Thatcher is preventing their rebuilding confidence with the community.

If you're referring to this bought up on council estates and tower blocks middle class hanger on, I can confirm that I've been to several meetings with talks by ex miners about the strikes and impact on the mining community. But you carry on making ridiculous assumptions Lily. I find it rather funny. Attachment: mindreader.jpeg (33.31Kb)

I have seen the Rolling Stones at Hyde Park...don't mean I have experience of what happened at Altamont.
