It was Wilfried’s personal choice and it was his right as a senior player to accept the opportunity to represent his nation of birth and that of his family heritage. His ‘desire’ or ‘passion’ should never have been publicly questioned for making that decision. Errr, yes a bit of a worry for the Russians who are currently getting a tonking by Palace strikers - Benteke got a brace last night. To be honest they deserve every tonking they get given that they bribed their way to get the WC and the fact most of their players/athletes will be buzzing with steriods

Just because people leave a place, it doesn't mean they stop feeling that's where they're from for all manner of reasons. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try to fit in but if you want to maintain your family heritage...all good. Who wants to give up who they instinctively feel they are??

Don't get it, can someone explain? I never meant to stay in Aus. Just got kinda stuck there. Opportunities to get back home were at a minimum. So just sort of stayed and got on with it. Wasn't a bad place to be stuck. But it isn't home. London is.

I think it's easier for English based players to play for England U21 than it would be for an African based countries U21's/friendlies. Gives them more exposure for their club career in England and the games are more local with the spotlight on them more. I can imagine their clubs would rather they weren't off playing games in Africa as well, some of them interfering with the domestic season here. It makes sense to me.

Go to any test match between England and India or pakistan held over here and all of the very same English born Asians who would have a fit if you referred to them as anything other than English are busy supporting India. My sister and her husband emigrated to Australia 40 years ago and her children who were 4 and 5 at the time (same age as Zaha when he arrived here) are thoroughly Australian and wouldn't dream of playing for any other team unless it was obvious that they wouldn't make it into their first choice. My brother in Law who was an adult when he emigrated still supports Palace and in an Ashes series remains English although he is now as Australian as anyone born and bred there

I wish Wilf all the best playing for the ivory coast. The bottom line being Hodgson repeatedly took Wilf for granted over and over again by not picking him.by a time Southgate came on the scene it was to late. England have scored a massive own goal not picking Wilf. Score a Hatrick at the bridge on Saturday Wilf.
