Stalin,Mao and the N Korean dynasty were cnuts.

We "The West" have been responsible directly and indirectly for many millions of deaths over the past 300 years or so...As examples, take the slave trade to the Americas,Belgium in the Congo,Germany in SW Africa,us in Tasmania,US,Spain and Portugal and then the US in relation to the indigenous inhabitants of the Americas,Franco,Suharto.

Not to mention the barbaric scum the West have sustained at times in parts of Asia,Africa and C/S America since the war.

All largely under regimes who would say they supported capitalism.

If you are not a hypocrite you could,on your logic, have to conclude that's what capitalism can lead to...

Fact is,cnuts are cnuts and what Stalin and Pinochet had in common that they were complete authoritarian cnuts. Fact one said he was a communist and the other said he was a saviour of the free market against communism was no more inherently a comment on communism than on capitalism.

Moral, beware authoritarian dictator cnut types. At present,in Europe, these people most often tend to say they are of the nationalist right rather than the left...

Objection overruled, Mr Rumpole.

I don't like to play death-offs but....

At the height of the AIDS famine an estimated 15 million people died. They didn't die because there was no cure, but because GSK who owned the patent wouldn't lower the price for those in 3rd world countries to be able to buy it.

90% of the rainforests in the Amazon delta have been cut down, mainly for Western agricultural and oil companies to reap in profits. It's nearly impossible to estimate how many people have died, but those forests were once alive with thousands of tribes.

And then, of course, there's climate change. We place almost no regulations on oil companies and farming corporations to protect our environment, now water and food shortages, as well as droughts, flooding and desertification is causing millions to leave their homes. Some will try and survive by fleeing to places like this. Many more will simply die.

Socialism and communism are the simple beliefs that every human being should be given security and resources capable for them to survive. Capitalism never has and never will provide that.

Socialism and communism are the simple beliefs that every human being should be given security and resources capable for them to survive. Capitalism never has and never will provide that.

Human self interest flows through any system set up by humanity. Any system will contain within it practices that opponents of it can point to and rather stupidly blame on a concept.

Capitalism with constraints has succeeded over any other system. Even the Chinese rather laughingly use it being the hypocrites they are.

A problem I have with a lot of the ideological is now their belief systems aren't based upon practical outcomes but rather feelings. The outcomes they end up with rarely make much sense...at least to me.

Pure communism is attractive, especially to the politically naive, because in its pure state there is an aspect of fairness about it. But communism disregards human nature and even works against it. It is a system run by humans and hence becomes corrupt as soon as it starts.

Socialism doesn't deserve the same level of criticism that attempts to enact communism deserve. However, the only form of half socialism I've seen work is within Nordic countries...Mostly countries with small populations and large resources...and they tax through the nines....Their defence spending has also been very low because they have enjoyed decades of peace protected by America and Nato without really paying much for it....And when I say Nato I mean America, France and the UK.

This socialism or any other form has never worked anywhere else. But it has certainly caused terrible financial messes that is for sure.

You would prefer a Communist as leader no doubt.

I would have campaigned strongly for Bernie Sanders if I was a US citizen. He's certainly not a communist. I believe that he would have stood a much better chance of beating Trump than Hilary.

More foolishness from Trump yesterday. I enjoyed Macron's trolling of Trump saying "let's make our planet great again".

I agree wholeheartedly with his comments: "President Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement is an abdication of American leadership and an international disgrace. At this moment, when climate change is already causing devastating harm around the world, we do not have the moral right to turn our backs on efforts to preserve this planet for future generations.

"The United States must play a leading role in the global campaign to stop climate change and transition rapidly away from fossil fuels to renewable and more efficient sources of energy. We must do this with or without the support of Donald Trump and the fossil fuel industry."

May's response has been typically weak and wobbly on this. The UK are signed up to Paris and it's of paramount importance. We should be using our "special relationship" to put pressure on the US and joining China and the EU in condemning Trump. Seeming both Trump and May want to turn the clock back. The Tory manifesto is pretty dismal on climate change, energy policy and investment in tech. The Labour response has been robust on this issue. May is spineless. She would be a disaster in any sort of negotiation. This is a view shared by high profile British diplomats who see her style as confrontational and ineffective with Europe and pandering and weak with the US.

Indeed. It has been one of her "9 u-turns", most of which she claims didn't happen or weren't u-turns, almost as if she forgot she said all these things in front of cameras and journalists. Her leadership style is cringe-worthy and weak.
