The very idea from them that removing or tightening their 'right to bear arms' is almost akin to a breach of their fundamental human rights is quite repulsive really .

Exactly this and predictably, gun stocks surged after Vegas, because peoples natural urge in the states is to just buy more guns.

Interestingly, many at the concert had concealed carry licenses and were armed at the time, but that proved useless in a situation like this. In fact, if they'd started waving around a gun in such a confused situation, they'd likely have only made things worse not better, risking their own life, and possibly being perceived to be 'the gunman'.

Not necessarily. If a vested-up Bruce Willis had been there all it would have taken was one shot by him and the killer would have been slotted between the eyes a few seconds after the first burst and before you know it everyone would have been wisecracking and laughing.

On top of this, the shooter had two 'bump stocks'. These are perfectly legal devices that allow you to turn to a semi automatic firearm into a fully automatic one.

“This replacement shoulder stock turns a semi-automatic rifle into a weapon that can fire at a rate of 400 to 800 rounds per minute,” she said. [Link]

What possible necessity could there be for owning this. This isn't about self defense.

I honestly think this is how many view themselves. Not as though it'll make a jot of difference, but NRA and co have no answers when events like this take place..

Spot on. Look up Charlton Heston's NRA speech where he - to thunderous applause - states that the only way the government will get his gun will be "from his cold dead hands".

Yeah I mean it's only called an amendment in the first place.

it's not as though the US is not prone to mass shootings anyway.

Just think what this country would be like if guns were that easily available. The terrorists would have a field day

er, no. Terrorist incidents would still be a drop in the ocean, just as we see in the US today. Why aren't there mass terrorist incidents in the US with the current free access to firearms? There are plenty of people already in the US who could do this as there are in Europe, no need for people to 'enter' the country, that requirement ended a few years ago. What would happen in the UK would be that non-terrotist incidents would sky rocket, as we see in the US, school shootings, festival shootings, shopping mall shootings, supermarket shootings - all apparently done by 'loners' or deranged locals.

The terrorists here do, and will, have field days anyway. Lone nutters are probably rarer here though because it is difficult to arm - although guns seem to be pretty easily available to gangs.

This idea that guns don't kill people, people kill people, is like saying that when someone punches someone in the face, the brain is punching them not the fist.

This is ridiculous. The brain is telling the fist to punch the same way that the brain is telling the finger to pull the trigger. The difference is that fists are rarely lethal, only extend as far as your arm and can't be thrown multiple times a second.

And if you missed the point of the hyperbole of letting Kim Jong-Un having nukes then you need to up your caffeine intake.

The logic to me, would appear to be, guns aren't the problem people are. The logical solution, to prevent people owning guns, without strict regulation (such as seen in the UK). Its notable that both Japan and Canada have surprisingly lack gun rules and not the same problems as the US.

And I think its probably true, the people are the problem, both the politicians, the advocates and the general gun owners.

Of course this. We already regulate what guns people can have and, in certain cases, who can have them. So the purity of the 2nd Amendment's "protection" for gun ownership has already been abridged. So discussing gun control isn't an either/or discussion, we're just deciding where we want to re-draw the line.
