Who on earth in our squad is more progressive in the Central midfield area!?
Jairo moves forward, passes forward, points forward, can pass a ball properly, can control a ball with either foot.

Easily the first name in centre midfield if we want to play football properly.

Watch the goal we did 5/6 perfect one touch passes. McCarthy is one of the most basic players I’ve seen. Bobby Bowery offered more.

In my opinion!!

Thats my point. I don't think Luka or either Macs are overly progressive, but neither is Jairo and I think people promote him for the simple reason that Roy leaves him out. Some of the calls for him to start every week are perhaps more anti-Roy than pro-Jairo.

As I say, I'm happy for Jairo to play but that's really just because he's youngest of the lot and we need to start regenerating the team, rather than any evidence that Jairo is noticeably better than the others.

In all of our thoughtful analysis of midfield play and players, we should remember that Wolves seemed determined NOT to apply pressure in the midfield today.

Agreed, but he didn't try anything overly progressive or ambitious either.

Our best chance in the first half came after McCarthy tried a difficult left footed ball over the top of their right back which PVA got to, and pulled back. Can't remember Jairo trying anything like that.

I've no problem with Riedewald starting, but I do wonder if some of his promoters on here aren't just using him as a stick to beat Hodgson with. Roy sticks with the same average midfielders no matter how they perform, but that doesn't make a different average midfielder better than he actually is.

This is exactly my view of Riedewald. I thought he played very well when he came on and showed great composure around our area on one occasion.

That’s because they rely on something that just wasn’t there today. They are potentially a great team however their style can be disrupted and I thought we did a good job of that today.

Absolutely, and he's usually looking for the pass to make as he's receiving the ball and tends to make it accurately and often forward. As another poster has said, Luka looked better once Jairo was on the pitch.

True, and that's enough to make anyone look composed on the ball. At the same time, they sat off so as to leave no gaps for passes through them, which is a different challenge, and not one I saw too many of ours able to rise to. I include Jairo in that, hence my point that he isn't an obvious upgrade on the old boys.

Some decent performances from a few players today - certainly better than last time out.

For me though the best performance was from Clyne.

I thought he made a big difference today.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

Agree with this mate

Jairo isn't that quick, but playing with a sitting midfield two that is fine. Frankly we need someone who keeps possession and links play; he does that whereas Luka seems to want 5 minutes to make a decision and the two Maccas are more like two terriers who break up play.

Wolves put no pressure on us today. Newcastle will be a bigger test if they play like they did against Everton today. Three wins from the next five games and the pressure will be off and maybe we can enjoy ourselves a bit for the rest of the season and maybe even introduce some of the U23s with one eye on next season.

Roy apologiest have been defending him based on a a fictious idea that people want more attractive attacking football.

For the last season and a half we've just been crying out for a 4-2-3-1 system. Don't play 3 holding midfields and don't play 4-4-2.

It's taken him at least 18 months to make the change that suits our players. It's not good enough. If he'd played 4-4-2 we'd have lost and he might have finally lost his job.

If he sets up like this til the end of the season then their will be less people calling for his head straight away, including me, but its taken him far too long to work it out.

They sat off because we struggle to pass and move when moving forwards with the ball, teams just have to wait for mistakes which we consistently make, Wolves were just lacking the ability to have someone waiting in the box, they had enough reasonable opportunities today, Wolves have no problems moving forward with pace.
