I may be overthinking things as well, but assuming Galatasaray qualify for the CL group stage, Wilf will hope to have 6 matches in which to show what he is capable of and if he shines, that may just tempt one of the bigger European clubs to bid for him. Perhaps what's happenned here is that SP withdrew the offer of 200k a week and a lifetime supply of Domino's once Wilf's contract finally ended. When Wilf came back to sign for us, as he realised he couldn't get his dream move to PSG or Arsenal, he Was told that the offer had changed to 50k a week and a lifetime supply of Papa Johns. Take it or leave it. So off to Galatasaray he skipped. Nothing to back up this claim, but doesn't leap to much bigger conclusions as other suggestions. "It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"
