Rochdale ripples into Mayoral election in London

The most interesting thing I found in the Rochdale result was the fact that Reform came last. They were beaten even by a candidate who wasn’t even standing! Now that’s interesting!
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I don't think you can read anything from this by election it's a one off. Voters fed up with the government some using it as a referendum on Gaza, labour not fielding a candidate etc. I fully expect at the GE that Rochdale will go back to it's normal voting patterns. As for reform they are a minority party I don't expect them to be a threat at the GE apart from as a protest vote by disgruntled Tories like me. Edited by Badger11 (01 Mar 2024 10.58am)

So the Palestine Flag won the election. I guess that all the literature that was printed wasn't worth it. Doubtful there are that many who can read.

Some of them actually live there and a few were allowed to cast their own votes.

He rang rings around congress when they asked him to appear. The real question is how good an MP is he? Will he do his best for the people of Rochdale and try and help them with their local day to day problems? Or is he more interested in preening himself in the House of Commons? We will see.

Apparently after postal votes were being encouraged by the Muslim "community" they increased by 14,000 in last election to over 27,000 in latter stages of this bi-election which massivly swung the vote!! Very dodgy and the way of postal voting should be looked into. In my opinion it should be for people who genuinly can't get out of their house to vote.

Galloway is a remarkable politician and would be a significant campaigning asset to a candidate even if he threw his support behind an independent. However I agree with Badger. He'll be out at the GE. The main parties were in disarray this time but will get their act together. And this vote was a one off protest on Gaza.
