Team news

Victor Moses has been pulled out of the squad by Crystal Palace's administrators with the view he is on the verge of being sold.

"If you’re pulled out of a game it's for a reason. They are going to be selling him," Moses' agent Tony Finnigan said. "The administrator's pulled the most sellable asset from the club to protect him.

"He was prepared to play and do his bit for the team. A lot of scouts were at Wolves on Saturday and it has been been widely reported that Nottingham Forest, West Brom and some Premier League clubs had an interest but that’s not the same as making an offer.

"I don’t know why he wasn’t sold before, but I am not the chairman or manager. I can’t say how much he will go for, that is the administrator’s job to get in as much cash as possible.

"I want my player to go to the right football club. There is a human being who has the right to choose where he plays his football. That is what my job is. It won’t be just cash that makes us move."

Left-back Lee Hills is available for selection after being cup tied for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Wolves, but Claude Davis and Clint Hill are doubts.

Newcastle's Danny Simpson is out with an ankle injury and Ryan Taylor is suspended. Shola Ameobi (shoulder) and Nicky Butt (calf) are doubts, while Steven Taylor (knee) won't play. New signing and former Palace winger Wayne Routledge is set to make his Magpies debut after joining from QPR this week.

Quotes

Chris Hughton

"It's a chance to get our first double. It would be nice to get off the mark with that. I thought we played particularly well at Selhurst Park.

"If anything it was a case of ‘welcome to the Championship’ and it was an introduction to the division. We were playing against a hardened Championship team who have a very good and experienced manager.

“There is nobody more experienced in this division than Neil Warnock. Our first game of the season at West Brom was basically two Premier League teams that had just come down.

“Away at Palace was a very dogged task and the players handled it very well. They knew after that day they were Championship players and they had to fight for a good result."

Wayne Routledge

"You could not have written the script. To be making my debut against the club that gave me my debut and my chance in football is incredible.

"It’s a weird situation, but I just have to make sure Newcastle get the three points. It’s massive blow for them and it was a bad day yesterday for Crystal Palace.

"Seeing them go into administration is hard, but it doesn’t change the aim for me, which is getting the win for Newcastle United. I’m fit and raring to go – I just can’t wait to pull on the shirt for the first time."
