Team news

Palace winger Wilfried Zaha will undergo a late check on his troublesome knee after he suffered a knock against Huddersfield last time out.

Jeffrey Schlupp injured his ankle in that game and won't feature, while James Tomkins and Alexander Sorloth are doubts. Connor Wickham has picked up a minor groin injury while playing for the U23s this week.

Liverpool duo Emre Can (back) and Joe Gomez (ankle) are both sidelined and won't play, however, Nathaniel Clyne (back) Andy Robertson (leg) are available again for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"I didn’t know that Mamadou [Sakho] had problems with Klopp but I have never had any reason to question his professionalism. I don’t know what he thinks of me as a coach but I’d like to think we have a good relationship.

"I certainly appreciate him as a player and there’s no doubt that he has incredible defensive qualities. The only problem we’ve had with Mamadou is not being able to play him every week because of his injuries.

"He’s been doing well in training and he’s ready to play again but I don’t ask him too many questions because I might not like the answer!

"Christian’s [Benteke] form is very much on the up and if Roberto [Martinez] had watched his last games against Huddersfield, Tottenham and Manchester United, he would have seen the player he has selected in the past.

"I would defy anyone not to be impressed by his work-rate but he needs to keep playing like he has been in these last few weeks. We all know he needs to score more goals and I would like to see him score another against Liverpool.

"Whenever players face their former clubs they give a little bit extra and I’ve certainly been on the wrong end of that plenty of times from the players I coached."

Jurgen Klopp

"We will play Palace with all we have, with all intensity and concentration. For a player or manager of Liverpool, the whole year is at least about qualifying for the Champions League.

"Both games are about qualification for the Champions League, one is for next year and one is for this year. They have the same importance, no difference for us.

"Only Arsenal were quite comfortable against Palace, but that’s not really likely. They have big injury blows over the years. Zaha is a fantastic player, but Sakho and Loftus-Cheek were also injured.

"They’ve had key players out - if they’d constantly been together on the pitch they’d be in another position in the table.

"They’re not a typical team. They’re in good shape. Roy is doing a fantastic job. It was the most difficult job to take."
