Shipperley started out as a trainee at Chelsea, before moving to Southampton for £1.25m in January 1995. Dave Bassett signed him for Palace in October 1996 for £1m and his goals helped the Eagles gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
After a slow start, he hit a rich bit of scoring form for Palace in the top flight before picking up an injury as Steve Coppell's side were eventually relegated at the end of 1997-98.
At the start of the following season, Shipperley moved to Forest for £1.5m, stayed there a year before joining Barnsley in the summer of 1999. Two years later, he moved back to London for Wimbledon in 2001.
Shipps had a prolific two years with the Dons and he was signed by Steve Kember at the start of 2003-04. Cash-strapped Wimbledon owed Palace £800,000 in unpaid Selhurst Park rent, so chairman Simon Jordan agreed to wipe the debt in exchange for Shipps.
But the club captain failed to create anything like his Wimbledon form and looked sluggish all season, managing just 11 goals. But it was his vital strike in the play-off final against West Ham that sealed promotion for the Eagles in 2004.
Shipperley struggled with a knee injury at the start of 2004-5 and couldn't force his way into the side, making just three sub appearances.
And after a meeting with Dowie over his Eagles future, Shipperley decided it was best if he looked for a new club.
