I realise you mean that ironically, but we humans do sometimes behave despicably, and those who subjugate and cruelly treat other humans are morally bankrupt. And let me stress, I don't want to appear "holier than thou", because I'm definitely not. I visited SA in the apartheid era, and I'm sure I would have been as seduced by the good life as the rest of the the white minority.

Conclusions:- Apartheid had to go; changing from such a long-entrenched political system would, as you say, have predictable consequences; those consequences will take a couple of generations to wash through; they have been far worse than I expected.

So they will suddenly lose their fecklessness and become responsible and industrious in a couple of generation - you seriously believe that?

One of my best pals is from SA. He’s qualified to tell me positive discrimination is rife.
Meritocracy is just a high scoring word in scrabble. What that tells me; and his qualified status is that a high proportion of certain ethnicities are clearly f***ing thick and couldn’t run one in a brewery

One of the most predictable things ever.

One thing we despicable Europeans learned was how to run things.

It seems that most of Africa is still in the dark ages where it has been for most of human history, and you can see why.

A select few make bags of money exploiting the masses just the same.

At least we have that in common.

Except here the masses are relatively wealthy and their standard of living is the highest it's ever been (or very slightly below the highest). The last Gini figure I saw for the UK was 35.7.

I've done OK. Nothing special, but I don't crap myself about the cost of things like the BBC tries to encourage me to do on an hourly basis. And I don't care that some people are a lot wealthier than me, and I've certainly never felt exploited by anyone.

Maybe Peter Gabriel will write another song for them.

If that is Joburg, apart from the opening frame the streets are free from rubbish, peaceful, wide and the place looks better than many I've seen in the world including here.

Are you actually watching the same video as the rest of us? Or are you merely telling us to dismiss the evidence right in front of our noses, as left-wing nutjobs so often do.

You are quite right. Very few in the West can complain about poverty.
Of course, we should all be a lot wealthier, but that is another story.
The majority of people in Africa can never be wealthy, or it would spell a rapid demise for our planet. We are currently on course for a slow death instead.

Despite the general poverty, some in Africa are enormously rich.
Nigeria for example has a wealth disparity which is off the scale.
South Africa was always going to go downhill. It is a lawless country run by clueless people.

That is how London will look in a few years. It already does in a few places.

Thanks politicians.

Such a beautiful country. I’d be there tomorrow if it wasn’t for the rampant corruption and eye-watering high levels of crime. Unfortunately the dream has gone for most if not all African countries. I hear Botswana is the best with lots of minerals and relatively low population.

The West continue to support/not openly criticise these corrupt leaders which means the suffering of the decent African people continues. We could start be more closely controlling and monitoring where the billions of aid actually goes.
