Sorry - didn’t see this earlier in the thread - you watched the same programme as me.

Did you come to the same conclusions..??

I came away thinking about the talent he had at his disposal but never really did anything with. He also definitely said he was stubborn and saw the world very black and white. The bit where he said he cleaned up in the early 80’s was interesting and how teams sussed out his style of play… that was 1985.

I don't want to be labelled as an '' apologist '', I prefer to think of myself as someone that tries, not always successfully, to see the bigger picture.

In this instance, given that things went so well at the end of last season was, I think , a big factor in both Parish giving Hodgson the job and him accepting it.

Of course Roy didn't have to accept the job. But for you to accuse him of greed and arrogance is typical of your inability to do anything other than critisise him. I know of ' driven ' people that carry on working when they don't need to. It's not for me but I respect their desire even if it doesn't suit me.

It's regrettable that Zaha didn't stay or was replaced. That the transfer budget was used the way it was. That the season has been disrupted by injuries. Because those issues are not directly under Hodgson's control. Things may have been very different.

And just to re-iterate, I didn't want Roy appointed this season either.

So with these points in mind, imo the worst that could happen if Roy used some youngsters or god forbid tries different systems and ways of playing, would be that we are where we are. His actual point would be proven about youngsters and a lack of depth and us lot would have to suck it up and make him correct. He’s not chosen that option though , as though it’s a brain game where you say things so many times and eventually hope people believe you. In politics that appears to work; a 90 odd minute game x about 7 would show you are either right or wrong. The last line of the guardian article. He seems more put out having to explain himself than if he was sacked.
WTF if that is true.

Let’s face it his style has literally gone by its sell by date. The game has moved on and the younger managers are faster thinking and anticipate what the opposing manager does next.

Unfortunately for us Roy is stubborn and not trusting of our younger stars of tomorrow. I wrote this season off long ago literally after that last transfer window, but I thought we would still stay up.

For Roy Tuesday will truly see what he is made of and like I said before “this is truly a 6 pointer for us” win it and it finishes Sheffield off, a defeat Christ then we really are in it up to our necks. He needs to get on the front foot straight away and get a goal or two to get the crowd buzzing, defend like he has been doing and expect a right slagging off and fireworks!

I wonder what this message board will look like after 10pm on Tuesday.
Will it be 'stop your panic bedwetters - there was never any worry with Roy?'
Or will it be, 'Roy should have gone a few games ago and we're now right in the struggle?'
I can hardly remember a game where so much is at stake on a game for a manager.
Of course the way football works it could be a bore draw and then the pressure is heaped on the next game - Brighton!
Can't be good for him at his age.
I remember Malcolm Allison saying football is about one of the only professions where you can spend a whole week doing what you believe to be good work only for it to crumble before your eyes in 90 minutes (plus 10 for VAR).

I’m in my 30’s Pat and worry about what it’s doing to me…

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It doesn’t get any better when you are in your late 50’s. The last 3 seasons under big Pat and Roy we have squandered so many leads when in a really good positions it beggers belief. All with minutes to go as well that’s what really gets you, our game management and timings of substitutions is truly abysmal……

This is how I see Roy. Never been a fan of his tactics but understand how he has enabled a modicum of success through use of a system. That system is no longer working and even the defensive side that was once so solid, looks fragile. Basically I think his time at the top level is up.

An analogy of how Roy must look at old vs young players can be described with classic vs modern cars. The old cars look great on paper and there is a lot of nostalgia about their previous performance back in the day, how easy they are to carry out day to day maintenance on and knowing how they will likely perform, but the simple fact is that compared to modern cars the overall performance is poor. He likes to play three Triumphs, a couple of Morris and an MGB, when we have a BMW, Porsche, Lexus and several other up and coming brands on the bench. Sometimes you just need to accept that modern is better in many ways and needs to be given a chance to prove its reliability. The old cars only run on super unleaded and additives and break down frequently. The analogy can go on and on.

Right, I must take the Triumph for a spin this morning.

Someone once described me as a 'Reliant Robin' smoking down the slow lane of life !

Apropos the Sheff Utd game,if we do not secure a victory the animus against Mr Hodgson will continue unabated.

Yesterday I commented on Roy not being given the players to avoid relegation and suggested Palace hit up one of their investors, Josh Harris, who the lead investor and purchased the Washington Commanders US football team not for 3 billion USD but upwards of 6 billion USD. Harris also owns the National Basketball team the Philadelphia 76'ers. (I love that name). Why don't Parrish et. al go to Harris for the money. He seems to have lots of it.

Simple - for whatever reason Harris seems reluctant to invest in Palace in the same way..!!

Why..?? There’s hundreds of posts on here asking the same question - conclusion you would only really know if you were in the Palace boardroom..!!

There’s clearly a problem - what that problem is - is open to conjecture - but all very frustrating..!!
