I shall refrain from apportioning culpability in relation to the Board or Mr Hodgson. I just want a return to those halcyon days where I actually looked forward to attending matches at Selhurst Park.At present I feel rather deflated akin to a pouffe without its wadding. Poor old Roy is looking awful in that picture above. Tired, old and very stressed. Is it all worth it? Apart from greed and money, then I would very much doubt it. His health and wellbeing are something both he and Palace should be keeping a very close eye on. Especially after that turn before Villa away.

The lazy decision to take the simplest option with the least resistance and give him another contract at the end of last season is coming back to bite the board. Don’t blame Roy he does what he thinks is best for the club he loves. It’s the board that are to blame who lack any coherent vision for the future. They continue to waste the talent that they have.

Roy didn't have to take the job. When Parish and the board decided that Vieira had to go, apparently Parish approached Roy and they worked out a deal for the rest of the season. A bit like Watford for Roy, except this time happy endings all round. Roy didn't have to take that on, and he certainly didn't have to take this season on either.

I don't want to be labelled as an '' apologist '', I prefer to think of myself as someone that tries, not always successfully, to see the bigger picture. In this instance, given that things went so well at the end of last season was, I think , a big factor in both Parish giving Hodgson the job and him accepting it. Of course Roy didn't have to accept the job. But for you to accuse him of greed and arrogance is typical of your inability to do anything other than critisise him. I know of ' driven ' people that carry on working when they don't need to. It's not for me but I respect their desire even if it doesn't suit me. It's regrettable that Zaha didn't stay or was replaced. That the transfer budget was used the way it was. That the season has been disrupted by injuries. Because those issues are not directly under Hodgson's control. Things may have been very different. And just to re-iterate, I didn't want Roy appointed this season either.

In truth after a good turn around after taking over from PV a lot of us fans were happy that he was given another year. Main problem has been the injuries to Olise, Eze and Doucoure. And no strengthening of the squad by the board, especially after losing Zaha. We required a right back, central midfielder in case of that spine losing a key player (it happened) and perhaps a forward and left back to challenge Mitchell. Don’t think much of that is down to Hodgson, but he does need to go now as those injuries has meant our rigid formation he plays means players coming in have been playing out of position and making us weaker. You would hope a new manager would have a plan B unlike Hodgson? Im fairly sure we would be much higher up the table even with Hodgson in charge if it hadn’t been for injuries to major players?
