interestingly, was a very common term for a paint colour up until as recent as the mid 80s.
It would be on Dulux, crown colour charts(& Ripolin for those old enough to remember)

Personally, I've not heard it from anybody since I worked with a very rough floor laying team from Bristol at the hospital we was painting in the 90s.
(just films & rap music now)
I dont mix with a particulary genteel crowd either, general consensus is its just not done, obviously other unflattering words get used in certain company for all & sundry, but i've struggled to recall any use of it bar the rough bristol boys decades ago.

What about Eminem? He's white and uses it all the time.

As a white person,If I find the n word offensive for any reason, and in any context, (which I nearly always do) then why isn't the offender castigated for using it? just because they're black, so are allowed?

Isn't that the very definition of racism; treating someone different based on The colour of their skin?

Wouldn't know about Eminem using it, I don't listen to his music. But he shouldn't.

And no, that isn't the definition of racism. Treating someone differently because of the colour of their skin isn't racist, showing prejudice against someone for their skin colour, is.

I'd ask again for those asking "why can't I say it?", Why they would want to? It's a highly derogatory word used in the past to dehumanise black people and a discussion far more historically complex for discussion on a football forum.

There is a difference between the "-a" and "-er" variants

Insular world. My life has been far from insular.

So what about your life. How often have you been treated unequally? How often have you been insulted using 'racial slurs'?

It still comes back to why should anyone use it? If you hear a song and have to find out who sang it to establish whether the lyrics are acceptable it’s not working. Everyone agrees it’s unpleasant so why not drop it.

Looks like you're the type to decides what racism is depending upon how you feel about it.

However, unfortunately for you racism is treating people differently due to their ethnicity. It doesn't change because you're non white.

You just prefer anti white definitions because it gets you off the hook.

You're asking me, like I actually use the word.

But I'll indulge...have you heard of the term "speech community?"

I have, but we have had to change much of what we used to say to fit in with the people who have moved to our country. Now wouldn’t it be nice if they did the same.

Nothing you say makes sense, but you're deflecting your own racism. All I've done is question why a white person would want to use a derogatory term for a black person but the only answer I receive is "whataboutery".

Racism isn't treating someone differently because of race, it's being prejudiced against them because of their race. If for example, I went into a European barber shop, they'd send me across to another barber who could cut my hair. Not racist in the slightest but would be by your own, confused definition of racism.

We, our, they...

I was born in this country mate, members of my family were brought over here to prop up the healthcare system, and to fight for this country in the war, I've paid tax for as long as I've been able to, it's as much mine as it is yours.

What it is that "they" used to say that "they" need to change, to do the same?

Not so much asking you as asking a rhetorical question.
Not sure speech community isn’t more of a linguistic categorisation than a racial one.

I listened to many debates on that Sunday talk show on BBC1, ‘The Big Questions.’ While Kehinde Andrews was spitting bile across the floor he was trying, and failing, to argue that racism only exists if the person on the receiving end is the oppressed or something. It’s complete BS. The people who agree with this on a different day will say racism is simply racism or label and cancel someone as racist because they’ve made a minor slip up rather than they did something racist on this occasion. It’s such a load of cr&p, no wonder normal people aren’t giving it the time they might do if they just concentrated on specifics that can bring positive changes.
