Why?

I get my information from sources I regard as reliable and not subject to wild unedited conspiracy theories. I don't suppose any of us personally witnessed these events.

Show me something that has been verified as factually true which confirms your "awareness" and then maybe you might have a point.

Once again the person who suggested the census was working to an agenda is pushing conspiracy theories? Have you ever thought you might be in denial?

September 2016, Black Lives Matter closes City Airport.

I think you'll find City Airport is in London, England, as well as the other places listed in the article from the BBC below:

"In August protesters blocked roads in Nottingham, Birmingham and the M4 at Heathrow, in a day of anti-racist activism. Nineteen people were arrested".

[Link]

OK so a few politically active protestors made a fuss in 2016 which I either didn't notice or had forgotten about. Big deal. I am sure there were plenty of weird political protests somewhere in the UK that year that outnumbered them which have also been forgotten. Maybe by UKIP!

It just isn't the point. "Black Lives Matter" as a widespread popular idea didn't enter the public consciousness until last year.

This attempt to tarnish the efforts of the players, and many others, by seeking to associate them with political activism is doing many people who only wish to demonstrate that they care a great disservice. Those who participate in seeking to do the tarnishing lay their own motivations open to serious questioning.

Excuse me, but that is putting a huge spin on something I might have said a while ago.

That I believe that the census ought not to ask questions about a person's skin colour doesn't mean it has an agenda. It means I disagree with the question.

Where is the conspiracy theory in my comment? All I have mentioned is the benefit of editorial oversight when assessing the reliability of information. Which ought to be obvious.

You have never been interested in anything even approaching the truth.

Once again you are spouting desperate misrepresentation. The truth is all I seek.

In case you missed it, I am not apologising for anyone or anything. I am offering rational explanations as to why these actions might have been taken. I condemn criminals and violence. I don't condemn the innocent bystanders. People are always innocent until proven guilty in my world. Maybe not though in yours? Just as they aren't in Trump's.

That IS the truth. Though I doubt whether you will even begin to understand it, let alone accept it.

What you said then ...

I am not responsible for what those running the census want to establish!

What a strange response.

You stated that BLM didn't exist in this country before last year. The fact that you didn't "notice" or had forgotten the BLM protests in 2016 (which you seem to think was just a "weird political protest" back then) and that it didn't become "popular" until 2020 to you isn't a "big deal". I agree actually. It wasn't a big deal to you until it became popular it seems. Why is that? The cause as stated in that article from the BBC (a trusted source?) was very much anti-racism yet you and others who were not directly caught up in the "weird political protests" chose to ignore or forget it.

And why you brought UKIP into it can only be pondered upon.

And if you think that I am guilty of "This attempt to tarnish the efforts of the players, and many others, by seeking to associate them with political activism is doing many people who only wish to demonstrate that they care a great disservice" then you are, not for the first time, wrong. I'm just pointing out that the fact that you either didn't notice or had forgotten the BLM protests of 2016 doesn't mean that they didn't have resonance then or that it didn't exist before the death of George Floyd in this country.

There's nothing wrong with admitting one's wrong occasionally. In fact, it's a strong trait.

You don't care about the truth....you stated on here that the truth can be covered up if you think it leads to worst outcomes.

You are damned by your copious disingenuous words on this platform. So much so it's only the progressive left who will defend the self described 'one nation conservative' on here.

Another of your lies.

So the clenched raised fist that so many of these footballers display when taking the knee just means that they want to go to the bathroom, and has nothing to do with the universally accepted symbolism of the 'black power' movement I take it?

The Democrats behaved responsibly. Anfifa doesn't have an organisation to name as there is no organised structure. The use of the term "BLM" extends much further than the organisation which has hi-jacked it. So to condemn criminality without seeking to falsely label genuine protestors is a thoughtful approach designed to avoid escalation.

Trump in contrast just lashed out with as much subtlety as a bull in a china shop. That might have pleased his base but did nothing to actually solve the problem.

This is no different to condemning Muslims or pakistanis for group rapes when we ought to be speaking of groups of criminals and allow the police to do their jobs without alienating whole communities.

Edited by Wisbech Eagle (04 Jan 2021 11.08am)

Your last paragraph is confusing “ we ought to speaking I& groups of criminals “ you mean the groups of pakistani men gang raping white girls?
I agree about alienating whole communities but let’s not forget many in those communities assisted in the covering up of the heinous crimes. Do you honestly believe that a Muslim wife, if she suspected her husband, would “out him” ? If you do I give up
